Comments Thread For: Wilder: 9 Of 10 Refs Would've Waved Off Fury Fight In 12th Round

Deontay Wilder has repeatedly applauded Tyson Fury for getting off the canvas in the 12th round and finishing their fight Saturday night. When Wilder drilled Fury with a right-left combination about 35 seconds into the final round, Wilder assumed Fury wouldn't be able to get up. The unbeaten WBC heavyweight champion celebrated as if he expected what had been a difficult fight to end at that telling moment.

His and his fans only argument is around a perfectly fine ref count that followed the rules, he/they have nothing, he/they know he lost.

I just made this point in kafkod's thread. In other states-New York especially in the post Magomed era- the ref would've erred on the side of caution and stopped it to prevent life threatening injuries. That is just the reality of where the sport is now.

Most commissions are not going to want to expose the state to any liability through lawsuit so they will instruct referees and doctors to look at KD's and any injuries very differently then we were used to seeing.

And at least 9 out of every 10 people who have seen this fight, saw Fury as the winner on points despite being down twice.

Wilder and his fans don't realise what they're arguing. They're saying the fight should have been waved off because Fury was unfit to continue, even though he proved he was fit to continue.

Hey Deontay, if you like "UK stoppages" then get your arse on a plane and come fight Fury or AJ in the UK!

9 out of 10 judges would've scored that Fury won the fight.

This is avvery good point that people need to read and digest. No matter what you as an individual think about the stoppage, Fury showed Reiss made the right decision by how he performed after he got up.

Had Fury suffered damage then maybe we could second guess Reiss' decision not to stop the fight.
