Yeah, all Ortiz wants is to be relevant and among the respected names. He will fight anyone. Joyce is not much of a name unless you visit sites like this and won't help Ortiz that much in the grand scheme of things. But he has to stay active and find real challenges. Joyce is that. The man has got a pretty high upside. But I just do not think he is ready for Ortiz yet.

I still want to see Ortiz against Miller. The best fight out there for them both, so long as Joshua/Whyte 2 and Wilder/Fury 2 happen like most of us think it will and Povetkin stay out of the mix.

Before you judge Ortiz, go watch his Bryan Jennings fight. Anyone who thinks he is hyped knows very little about boxing. Skill-wise, he's the best in HW. One thing we can all agree on is that he is old; possibly older than your wild guess.

Ortiz really thought the Whyte fight was going to happen. But I do not think Whyte and his team were wrong to put the breaks on that fight. If Joshua is an option in April, Ortiz will be there afterwards. Chisora is an interesting rematch, but one Whyte should win. Whyte did not have to fight anyone. He could have waited on April to see what Joshua did.

Ortiz just wants to fight good names. Whyte is among the better names out there.

        • Fighters like Joyce is why the division is terrible. The fact that some persons consider him decent is even more sad. I don't watch highlights. Never! I watch full fights and full fights only. It seems what most people do is watch highlights. Stop it! My candid advice.

Joyce, sad to say, is a joke of a fighter. The boy is slow; slow in learning as well. Any decent counter-puncher sees his punches coming from a mile away, like we saw in the WBS versus Usyk. That was years ago, yes, but the boy (man) hasn't changed much. Against Ortiz, he will eat continuous counter straight lefts as well as right hooks. All day. Some say he just keeps coming. Keep coming forward against who? Usyk? The Ukrainian isn't known for KOs, and almost never knocks anyone out early. And that fight was for 5 rounds.
The only reason why this fight is up for discussion is 'cus of Ortiz's age. Only God knows how old! And then add BP in the mix. Can Joyce take him into deep waters? That's the big question.
I think there's no deep water in this fight. Joyce won't be able to do much in the early rounds that would affect Ortiz in the latter rounds. I strongly doubt it. Ortiz takes him out mid rounds.

I would rather love to see Ortiz against Whyte or Povetkin. A win against any of those two gives him the kind of credit he deserves. I prefer the latter fight (vs Povetkin). It would be a "skill-fest". Pure art! Battle of the ages---sorry, I meant aged.

Joyce is an Olympic silver medalist. That’s a big scalp to have no matter what.

            • I honestly think Joyce may as well just go for it. He's 33, if he's ever going to be good enough he already is, know what i mean

The WSB against Usyk was several years ago, yes.

Joyce has clearly improved since then as even just prior to the olympics he was terrible and he's cleaned up a lot in recent times

Also, yes usyk schooled him, but Usyk was gassed to high heaven after 5 rounds because Joyce was pressuring him constantly, Usyk said Joyce was one of his hardest opponents, that despite the fact he "schooled him" Becaus usyk knew he put everything into keeping joyce off him for 5 rounds

                Pro fights are 12 rounds

                • Joyce is nothing special to be honest.

At 33, he is just a big guy with a predictable, plodding style and some decent power.

Ortiz could give him a real beating IMO.

I don't think he has changed much. I don't just see it. Usyk gassed? I wish to disagree. Joyce didn't win a single round. Usyk has proven he can go the distance, so no one knows how the fight would have played out if it had gone 12 rounds. Maybe a 12 round of schooling, who knows. Joyce is yet to face a decent fighter to tell otherwise about him. And I have watched some of his pro fights. I even watched his debut fight a second time recently. That one was lengthy and could tell me more about him.
