Comments Thread For: Markus Beyer Passes Away at Age 47 From Illness

Former WBC super middleweight champ Markus Beyer has passed away at the age of 47 at a hospital in Berlin after what German media describes as a short time of serious illness. Beyer turned pro in 1996 after a long and successful amateur career promoted by Sauerland Event and trained by Ulli Wegner. He was moved fast and won the WBC title in 1999 with a points win over Richie Woodhall. However, in 2000 Beyer seemed on his way to a win over a solid opponent in Glenn Catley when he gradually fell apart and was stopped and it was as if he was never able to get back to 100% after that.

I never realised he was ill. He was a very decent fighter in the 90s. RIP.

Shocking.... I was just thinking about him a few days ago.

            Technically he was very sound.

            RIP.

Nobody knew. And what illness he had is still to be revealed.

So sad. Way to young to go out. Rip champ.

RIP Champ. I watched most of his fights in the 2000s.
