If Wilder only knew how to fight.

For me that was the biggest take away from the weekend. I was just perplexed by how much raw talent this kid has and at the same time he just doesn't know how to fight.

I mean he basically was embarrassed by his lack of boxing skills and he still almost won. Absolutely Fn crazy.

I don't know much about him though, not sure what the back story is as to why he doesn't know how to fight.

He didn't start boxing until he was like 19. He still somehow won a bronze medal in the Olympics, though.

Wilder at the presser after the fight said the game plan was to go to the body a lot.
But he just got carried away going for the KO.

I think he can box better, but gets carried away emotionally.

Perhaps also vs Fury maybe he thought this guy doesn't have great power, I'll take my chance here and go for the KO most of the fight. Came within 1 second of doing it.

At a rematch, I think he'll box better. And maybe Fury will throw harder. Could be a better fight.

I agree with this 100% dude has freak genetics. Hes tall, long, and has the gas tank to carry his power and explosion all 12 rounds.

It's a shame he cant box because hes got the raw talent to be MUCH better than he his. He definitely needed a better trainer during his career. Age will catch wilder sooner than later. Once that athleticism goes so does he. Highly doubt hell have the skills to adapt later in his career.

No excuses for his poor boxing. 14 years to learn. AJ started boxing at 18 and hes younger and has more boxing skill. Wilder chose not to learn. He just relies on his raw power which has ALWAYS worked for him. To be the best though he needs to learn how to box and not rely only on his power.

I don't know, man. Wilder was up against a guy bringing some unusual S to the table. Fury is damn talented, and he was focused for this fight. Imagine how good Fury would be if he didn't have the troubles he's had away from boxing.

I do think Wilder could do better next time...but this is easier said than done once you get in the ring. Fingers crossed for the rematch to settle it.

Point being -- give some credit to the dude Wilder was up against.

Sergio Martinez didn't start boxing till late as well, and he got skills.

Didn't Hopkins start late to.

And if I could fight like Lomachenko I would be world champion too.

Wilder should have definitely learned to be more well schooled in his career.

I think part of the thinking of his team was that his more unorthodox style is to his advantage to land shots, and maybe that's true to an extent, but it's not going to work as well against someone like Fury with a high boxing IQ. That said, he did get hits shots in and drop Fury.

I dunno, i just think they fell in love with his power so much that they ignored the flaws. But then again, he is still top 3 in the division and WBC champ, so it's not like they have failed him.

Most punchers come up against a superior boxer at some point and that's all that happened.

I would disagree he does know how to fight because using what he has available he has been able to land his power even on tricky opponents. Being able to fight would be the ability to use what a guy has and make something out of it and I do think that describes Wilder pretty well.

His technical boxing skills leave quite a bit to be desired so if he tries to box a boxer he will not look good.

Not everyone is meant to be a great technical boxer though, sometimes guys have to go down a different road to get the most out of what they have. Wilder was never really meant to be a technical fighter even if he trained from an earlier age I think he would have ended up in kind of the same spot maybe a bit better technically but he would not be some crazy elite technical boxer.

Mike Tyson vs evander Holyfield 1 and 2 is where a fighter clearly didn’t know how to fight.. also mike Tyson vs Lewis is where a fighter didn’t know how to fight. Wilder clearly knows how to “fight”.
