Comments Thread For: One Man's Opinion: This is Deontay Wilder's Time

By Michael Rosenthal - LOS ANGELES The noise before every high-profile fight the bravado of the participants, the endless analysis, the chatter by fans, even the betting line can cloud your judgment when it comes to predicting a winner. The best approach to take, I always say, is to trust your gut the minute you hear the fight has been made. My gut told me at that moment that Deontay Wilder will knock out Tyson Fury to...

Couldn't agree more. The job of the promoters and fighters is to cloud the outcome of a fight and make it must-watch. No one on the planet Earth sells better than Tyson Fury. He is one part George Foreman, a sprinkle of Floyd Mayweather, and a dash of Don King when it comes to personality. He can be the bad guy, good guy, trash talking dancing bear, or technical warrior depending on what you need.

He is not ready for this. He just isn't. He is older, has been inactive, and has bled his body to get in shape. Drained it. He looked limited and soft handed against his comeback competition. I get Wilder haters picking him, and I get British boxing fans wanting to see Fury/Joshua. But I am having a hard time believing anyone else is really sold on Tyson Fury as anything else but a nice name and a lineal title.

    Wilder in 8.

Agree on most everything you say. Still, Fury managed to get Wilder really nervous; he seems to be winning the mind war until now.

I can't pick a winner, though I bet on Fury prevailing inside the limit just to try and win more money; Wilder pays too little for the risk.

I am not a fan or a hater of either fighter; I just can't wait to see what happens tonight.

I've noticed that lots of people are predicting easy wins, whether they support Wilder or Fury...... I think the fight will prove a lot of people wrong regarding tactics and how it plays out.

Wilder will never be easy to beat because he can land at any time and is a good finisher..... Fury is never easy to beat as he's not easy to time or land clean on.

Both guys deserve credit here if they win.... it's a shame on a boxing site that a lot of people won't give the winner credit.

Agreed, I am struggling to pick a winner, too many variables.

Even if Tyson schools Wilder for 11 rounds, Wilder can send him to sleep with one haymaker in the 12th

People will give Fury plenty credits if he wins and won't give Wilder any credit if Wilder wins. They will whip up a narrative suggesting that Fury is rusted, laid off for 2years, and could have fought top fighters before taking the fight. And some others, I belong to this group, will see Wilder as an opportunist who capitalized on Fury's layoff.

I know what I said might seem to contradict what I've said before - that it's a mismatch in boxing terms - but what you said is correct. If this goes into the 11th round and Fury is up 10 rounds I will still be on the edge of my seat.

I'm not 100% confident at all his stamina will hold up, I'm relying on Fury countering Wilder early on and draining him by leaning on him and wearing Wilder down in the clinch.

Also Wilder could get lucky at any time, just a punch thrown in desperation and landing could swing the fight.
