It can be even more. Depends on the seating capacity. Steve Kim had an article on this on maxboxing years ago. It can cost some over 10k to show. UFC is much cheaper and that is why it is in more bars. Pretty dumb of boxing IMO

I’ve never paid to get into a bar to watch a fight.

Yeah this is right. Back when Tyson was on the tail end of his run the bars were being charged 10K to show his final fights.

Thats why most of the sports bars would show a Tyson fight because he would bring in the money into the bars literally.

Man I dont wanna sound like a snitch, but I used to work for this company that went to businesses kind of like a secret shopper and we'd get paid bonuses if we caught bars showing the fights without paying the 10K back then when everyone had a black box.

I was still in college and thought hey I need the money so they had us go into like 3 different bars and confirm who was showing the fights and who was not and if they didn't pay the official 10K to show it they got fined. Word is it was funded by like Don King Productions or whoever threw the fight thats how much money Don King was making in his prime yo.

Depending on the venue and the fight, I've read $1000-$2000 being the rate to host closed circuit at establishments.

If you're a bar looking for traffic, at $10 a head, drawing 100-200 folks covers the fee, plus folks will eat/drink too (likely lowering the cost to cover the fee drastically; assume each person spends an extra $20, and you're at 35-70 folks needed to cover).

Now, why isn't it a universal thing for establishments? Likely costs.

Between the closed circuit PPV feed, the staff/extra staff brought in for the night, the food/liquor costs, extra cleanup, etc, most places basically have three hours to get folks to turn out and sell enough drinks/food to not only cover the costs, but make enough money to warrant the costs.

If you're a bar that gets by on the 10-20 people coming through your place, fronting the money and needing 50 people to cover doesn't make much sense.

Send Joe Hand an email for an estimate. He's been doing this forever.

I believe it. I remember my tia's restaurant got nailed for showing a regular HBO fight years ago without paying the extra fee.

An absurd amount. I live in Houston and I feel bad for the bars that show PPV fights. Most of them are busts except for the big fights. Sad sight to see a bar host a PPV and only about 15 people came for the fight.

about 10 years ago I was gym rat and fitness freak. I almost bought a gym and one of the things I was gonna do was show all the fights in the gym so if you had a paid membership you'd be able to come in on fight night and watch all the fights for free while you work out or just wanna see the fights.

I then realized unless I had a ton of memberships this idea would fail bad and I'd lose a ton of money lol.

but I went to college with a few guys who got into the gym business they own MMA and kickboxing gyms and they are doing good one guy ones like 4 gyms now and he says all the chicks are fine as hell lot of IG models lol.

stop. You are just making shiet up. It’s not 35-70 people to cover and it’s not 1000-2000 per event. It’s more than that.

It goes by the seating occupancy established by the fire code. The note seating you have the more you pay.

                    Here is just one example:

It is not about "The Sport Of Boxing" itself it is about CERTAIN FIGHTERS! Bars will gladly pay whatever to show something that Includes Mayweather because it will generate $$$ for the Bar but no they're not going to Pay whatever Fees just for some Random Boxing Match in which most of their customers don't have a clue who the fighters are. In Combat Sports if McGregor or Mayweather are not attached to it I doubt most of these Bars are even interested
