Boxing has to be the only sport where fans root for it to fail

I literally never see any other sport where fans cheer when a fight doesn't sale well or hope that it flops. Boxing fans will wish a fighter doesnt make much and hope the ticket and ppv numbers are bad.I really don't get it

Bizarre indeed. Also some fans seemingly being fanboys of certain promoters and TV networks, i can't understand that.

I couldn't understand why so many fans want DAZN to fail. Why? If it becomes really good, then they can have great boxing content for a whole month for a bit more than it costs to put a McDonald's down their fat necks. They should be willing for it to grow into something great at that price point. I'd be delighted if my country had it, i just spent that amount on two drinks in Starbucks.

I just want to see good fights. I don't care how much a fighter is making or not. The money isn't going into my bank. I don't know why people talk about their fighter making x amount more than another fighter, like they're getting a cut.

It's just like, you get sick of all these weird fights, rankings, corrupt score cards, promoter beefs, this guy won't fight this guy etc.

I don't think any of us want to see boxing fail but **** has to annoy you eventually.

They wanted PBC to fail. They want DAZN to fail. In the end, I'm glad HBO got out of the sport since they didn't care any more but it's probably best for US that these businesses do good.

Boxing is the ultimate fanboy sport. Most of this board are boxer fans not boxing fans and they base their entire view of the sport and it's competitors based on their mancrush so they view an event struggling (which hurts the sport) as a victory for their guy. I could tell who the noobies were based on celebrating HBO pulling the plug on Boxing which IMO was no big deal since their commentary is biased as hell but is it such a big deal? It wasn't a good look for the sport IMO just as a heavyweight fight which should be huge being a commercial flop isn't good for the sport.

I can spot these fans a mile off and they don't go to the events either. That's clear to see. I think most of them want boxing to go away because their interest in the sport goes away when their fighter does. Some stick around a cling onto another guy but with less passion and eventually goes to a different sport. I've watched boxing long enough and interacted enough with online fans to have seen this.

Ever been a fan of the Eagles and hoped the Cowboys fell on their ass Thanksgiving day?

Ever been a Yankees fan and hoped the Redsox went out winless next season?

Ever been a fan of Liverpool and hoped Manchester United were relegated

Ever been a Madrid fan and hoped Barcelona go out of the group stages of the Champions League tourny?

Ever been a fan of GGG and hoped Canelo would get knocked out by Fielding in an empty stadium where only 50 people showed up?

Same idea. We choose our boxers, and root for them hard, as if they were a team on their own, all the while hoping their arch-nemesis lose out via KO.
