That's actually Dan Rafael's take, not mine and really I do not feel compelled to explain it and may have his intent wrong in any case- I think I kinda see where Fat Dan was coming from (don't necessarily agree).

I started this thread simply to illustrate one or two thought processes that might go into filling a vacant lineal and to underscore that no matter what those processes are, they are all about adhering as close as possible to original idea of "the man who beat the man who beat the man".

When you are talking about filling a lineal from a retirement of something else, no scenario is going to live up to real thing.

Most example will be horrible to someone.

The closest idea to what would be perfect for filling a vacant lineal is something like the WBSS, but they weren't doing that much then.

I get where Dan was going tho as I said I am not sure I agree.
