    nobody to blame but himself
Exactly...... His promoter has to say this nonsense to generate interest. His last fight was a fight he was supposed to win yet lost horribly.

You might over train for one fight. You don't overtrain for 3 fights you happen to lose. Unless he has a medical condition to cause him to have poor stamina his problem seem to discipline. Also, Kovalev went 12 rounds with Chilemba and his stamina didn't seem to be a major factor. In fact he fought hard in the later rounds. Maybe Ward and Alvarez was simply better than him.

First we had a stream of excuses from the man himself, now they come from his promoter. Hope he get's KO'd again.

Not sure any of the top LH's can handle this version of Alverez...

              Well-rested Kovalev is undefeated.

Kov's a proper hard basturd and a highly skilled fighter no doubt about it, but his biggest flaw is his inability to learn from his mistakes. You can see his demeanor change after a 5/6 rounds when his guy is still there in front of him throwing back. It was evident in the 2nd half of the 1st Ward fight that he has trouble processing not annihilating guys. I really hope he reflects on those defeats and comes back an improved all round fighter. Still one of my faves.

Bull. Since Meldonium has been banned plenty of these Eastern European/Eurasian fighters, especially the bigger ones seem to lose a step. From the Klits all the way down to GGG.

Could be. Or maybe the KO losses put a dent in his chin, stamina and confidence.

I remember how he handled and stopped a very game and durable Pascal twice. Why couldn't he do the same to Alvarez? Probably because he was then undefeated and full of confidence till the KO loss to ward...
