SHO Executive Stephen Espinoza Interview with Kurt Emhoff

Very good interview here and Espinoza is confident he ends up with Charlo vs Hurd and other unification bouts on SHO in 2019. Also addresses Les Moonves departure and the future of SHO. Oh yeah, also claps back at Hearn and Arum for saying SHO will be out of the boxing business soon.

Edit: Link of course blanked out. Click on the link from this tweet:

Good stuff. Listening to it now.

Love his theory about the more guys are talking about doing deals across platforms publically the less they are trying to do that. I definitely believe thats true.

Also like how he brought up Hearn taking the Arum approach with sh^tting on other peoples product when hes selling 2k seats in Kansas. I'm surprised Hearn is going petty & low like that.

And also funny how he brought up Eddie saying PPV is dead while his biggest UK money is from PPV lmfao. I didn't even connect the dots on that one.

Stephen is a underappreciated dude. He's not out there as much as some of these other guys, but I think he breaks down things for his own product, good or bad, and boxing in general better than most.

I wish Haymon would come out of the shadows & talk to Kurt or Mannix or Michael Woods one day. I think that'd be great for his image, his products image & for his fighters & probably for acquiring new fighters when more cats see what kinda mfer he is.

Well, the PPV price in England is a lot less than stateside, but no doubt Brits get screwed with every good/decent match up put on PPV. They have had or will have like 10 or 11 PPVs in 2018. That's just crazy. Even with the lower price point, that adds up.

He did say Hearn should worry more about his product than ours as the dynamics have changed over at DAZN compared to when it first launched. Obviously he is referring to the GBP deal and what it can mean for the future.

One interesting point he brought up is that right now DAZN needs programming so they invested hard in boxing, but what happens as they add more sports to their platform? What happens to boxing then? I mean right now this is pretty much all they can get, but what if they get some NBA or NFL rights? Then what?

Did acknowledge that it is go time in the Wilder/Fury promotion and this is the stretch during PPV fights he gets a bit anxious. He wants every commercial to be about the fight lol. Also acknowledged a loss on the event can eat into the budget a bit but he doesn't recklessly make deals that will put his product in danger. Then he brought up how it isn't simple as fans think that any good PPV adds to the budget. Mentioned how we couldn't just take the money made from Mayweather/McGregor and add it to the budget as that money is also used to pay other expenses for the network.

      Definitely a nice listen.

I actually missed this part of your post. So when Emhoff mentioned that we are talking to arguably the most powerful network figure, Espinoza responded with, well at least arguably the most powerful network figure that gives out interviews LOL.

Does anyone know if Haymon used to give out interviews when he was in the music industry?

No one cared if he did. But he did more, just not many. Wasn’t a big deal to talk to a big concert promoter.

The only legit interview I've seen with him was for Jet magazine back in the 80s iirc. Around the time of the Raw tour with Eddie Murphy I think. Which also has the most hilarious pic of Charlie Murphy I've seen iirc.

Everything else with him I've seen was a one or couple quote type thing. I've never heard any audio interview with him nor seen him do any video interview of any duration.

If anyone knows of any other interviews with Haymon I'd LOVE to read/listen/watch them.

Don King was the big concert/boxing promoter in the 80s and he stayed in the public eye.

Haymon not so much. Tho he's responsible for those big R&B Budwiser Fest Tours of the 80s-90s.

Don King is a major exception. There were several big concert promoters, Haymon was one. I think he recognized a while ago that it wasn't about him.

Sergio Mora during his interview with Mannix said he didn't even know how Haymon looked before they first met and assumed he was ***ish lmao.

I'd also like to see an interview of his if it is out there. But highly doubtful there is one.

Yea lol I heard that. That was a interesting interview & specifically the Haymon part was interesting.

I thought it was interesting when he was telling Sergio about meeting him. How Haymon was. Thats definitely an interview worth checking out for anyone who missed it. Mannix is one of the best boxing interviewers out there.

No there is one for sure. I've read it & I'm almost positive I posted the Charlie Murphy pic from that interview from this site.

I was trying to find it w/o success a lil bit ago (although admittedly wasn't looking to hard). I think it might be Ebony not Jet doe as I originally said cuz I did find a mention of the article in another Haymon article. Supposedly from 1994 which is a couple years before he got into boxing with Vernon Forrest.
