'Funtime' blew what little chance he had to be half decent many moons ago.

Really doesn't matter the Spaniard is going to finish him, with or without his rat tail

Lejarraga is top 10 by all 4 organizations. Time to see new faces in title fights.

Haha, When did anyone over here rate Gavin? After winning the world championship we thought he might do something at pro level. But we soon saw he wasn't going to make a good pro fighter in any way shape or form. A bit like Audley Harrison.

I remember the specialized press flying quite high on his chances, but indeed reality showed up immediately.

A couple in the press may have had high hopes for Gavin after what he did at amateur level, but after a handful of pro fights it was obvious that he wasn't going to make it. I remember a few voices back then, but not many. Fans most certainly didn't jump on the wagon.

There really is no excuse for missing weight. If "fun time" Frankie was serious, then he would have sailed from Plymouth to Bilbao or Dover to Calais 3-4 weeks ago. "This is an embarrassment to British boxing"!

I think Gavin decided that if he could not make the 147 pounds easily, he would skip the EBU title, take the bag, and try to win with a good weight advantage. Draining himself down to 147 would have made him too weak. Beating Lejarraga, who is ranked top 10 by all bodies, would put him back on the map, and the weight issue would soon be forgotten.

                      Why I think so?

I've watched every interview available on youtube etc. with Gavin since the fight was announced back in May, and Gavin has looked sharp, motivated and confident. Fast hands, good punch. He also looks to be in good shape physically. Thus, the weight is not an indication of poor shape.

In his 'Bilbao bound' warm up fight in September, he weighted just under 154 pounds, which is 2 pounds or a kg more than he weighted yesterday. I would guess 153+ pounds could not be far away from his natural body weight at the time.

The ferry story excuse is just a cover up. My guess is that when his trainer found out a week ago that Gavin had no intention of making 147 and fight for the title, he pulled out.
