Comments Thread For: Oscar Rivas Aims To Be Impressive on Stevenson-Gvozdyk Card

Oscar Rivas earned his nickname, “Kaboom,” from trainer Marc Ramsay sometime before his August 2009 professional debut as a heavyweight, a third-round TKO of Joe Stofle. Ramsay was overseeing violent sparring between Rivas and Canada-based Hatian, Bermane Stiverne, who reigned for eight months as heavyweight champion starting in August 2014.

Yes his fight with Washington was cancelled in Vegas a couple years ago because of his retina issue. 2 surgeries so the NSAC wouldn't sanction him. He could have the same issues in other big states like California & NY. Owen Beck had the same problems & never could get a licence in the big states after. He spent the rest of his career fighting in places like Nebraska & where ever he could get a licence. I don't think Rivas has fought in the US. All his fights in Canada except the one time last year in France. I thought that card in France was going to be a showcase for fight with Duhaupas as they both fought on the same card. It never materialized though...

Last December he fought outside Canada for the first time in France. Both he & Duhaupas were on the card fighting tough journeymen. I was certain it was a showcase for them to meet up in 2018 but it never happened. I would like to see that scrap.
