Agreed that there has been a mayweather effect where everyone wants to protect their won/loss record and try to make money while minimizing risk to an extent. Boxing fans will never be satisfied because all of the guys I mentioned from the last generation were ridiculed to some extent. But now when you look back and assess not just who they fought, but when they fought them... You realize that they were under appreciated at that time. Oscar (who I'm not a fan of) fought the best versions that existed of Trinidad, mosley, Hopkins and others. Trinidad fought the best versions of Oscar, vargas and Hopkins. Mosley fought everyone that mattered other than tito. Today I can't think of 1 fighter who has faced at least 3 elite fighters who weren't either well past 30 or washed up when they faced up.I tend to agree with your general sentiment that the sport has been impacted by the "Mayweather effect." Athletes are seeing the business side of this sport more clearly than ever before, but I don't think this is a completely new phenomenon. Fighters from the last generations also sought the best money for the easiest fights. They had promoters after all. ODLH, as much as I liked him, was incessantly criticized for building his early resume on big names who were either too old or too small. Oscar was also justifiably criticized for ducking Winky Wright back when Winky was taking names.Comment

According to reports Garcia wanted Vada testing and Spence turned it down. What's he hiding? Is he cheating to come down from the 170 he weighs?Loma has never been in the CBP. Loma isn't using VADA for his fight that is just next month.
Why don't you bring that up? Why is it when Spence isn't enrolled in VADA you continually post about it, insinuating he is juicing? Yet, when Loma or any other world class level fighter doesn't use VADA you NEVER mention it???
Loma isn't using VADA for his fight in less than a month. So here we are...….
Spence is fighting a guy 2 weight classes lower than him, dont you think it should be a fight where everything is on the up and up or do you just wanna bring up every other fighter on earth instead?Comment

I didn't read all these comments. But I'm sure this hasn't been posted since most people are writing off the fight that is already signed!!! But, uh.... if Mikey beats Spence, none of this talkin' is gonna matter anyways.Comment

Thing is money doesn't survive the long run. These fights will happen eventually...until then who really cares.
As long as a fighter is picking an "easy" paycheck here and there before rolling the dice I have no issue with that.
Its a tough business and gotta take care of the bank account before trying to satisfy anyone in a thankless profession.
Let Shawn do what makes the most $ense for Shawn.
Legacy be damned.
Once again these fights will happen until then no reason to get your blood pressure up.
Money runs out, and even if it doesn't, you will die one day and your children, the state, and other family members will chow your money and that will be the end of it.
Legacy on the other hand is everlasting, and legacy can create opportunities for you even after retiring.
People still talk about Ali, Foreman, Frazer, Leonard, Robinson, Duran, Hearns, etc etc.
But who will talk about Shawn Porter two years after he retires?
Who will remember him when he passes on?
His name will disappear in history.
Legacy is important mate. There is power in a name.Comment

I'm a fan of shawn porter. If you look at the resumes of all PBC Welterweights, Porter has fought much tougher competition than the rest of them and he has a few notable big wins. He doesn't fight rod salka types. Ugas isn't the fight we want but it's still a very good opponent before the Thurman rematch takes placeComment

I'm pretty sure Mosley is the one who avoided Floyd for years, sighting a toothache and going a vacation as an excuse not to fight Floyd. So, my comment about the "Mayweather Effect" was not so much a jab at Floyd or an accusation of ducking. I mean to say that Floyd's success has a lot of fighters thinking more about their bottom line than their fight legacy. Floyd fought a lot of great names. The only fighter that I know for sure (zero doubt) that Floyd ducked was a prime Pacquiao. I think he sort of avoided a younger Mosley, Paul Williams and Winky Wright too, but I wouldn't call those clear ducks. Floyd wasn't afraid of those guys and would have fought them if they were the absolute top fights to make monetarily.
As for Pac, pretty sure his own trainer admitted that they were the ones guilty for the fight not happening earlier.Comment

For every ONE of those (legacy) names you have mentioned there are literally hundreds who are penniless!!!Thing is money doesn't survive the long run.

If you have been around pro boxing long enough you should know unless you are in denial.
Here is an example,Rid**** Bowe, a real tragic case who literally needs the income from signing autographs to make money!!!
Remember Joe Louse. Know how he ended ?!?! BROKE!!!
Once again , worry about making the most $$$ you can BEFORE rolling the dice!!!
Remember the name Bobby Czyz a former belt holder in the 80s/90s...last i heard of him he was a bagger at a grocery store!!
This is a thankless and rotten profession.
Make your money while you can.Comment
