DAZN has the potential to revolutionise boxing

its making boxing more accessible. You are getting value for money. If it ran in the UK i would pay for it, its half as cheap as just paying for usyk/bellew ppv.

Even if people just buy it for canelo or joshua, if youve subscribed you are likely to explore what else is on offer too. If they build this right then they wont need to be paying over the odds for established superstars, they will be able to make their own.

I just dont see how showtime will be able to compete with this, people arent going to pay for their PPV fights on top of subscribing for DAZN. Its like subscribing to netflix and getting all of its shows/films versus paying 40 quid for a single tv box series. In fact the whole PPV model is absurd, you dont have to pay extra money for the superbowl or the champions league final so why do you have to pay so much for top level boxing?

I think within a few years they will have a near monopoly on the sport and arum (if hes still around) and haymon will either have to work with DAZN or exit boxing. As a subscription service the pressure is on to deliver an appealing service so we should see a lot more top fights happening regularly. Whereas others such as PBC have got into a comfort zone of delivering free substandard fights and then the odd PPV fight (which they said they werent going to do originally)

I know some of the dinosaurs on here are sceptical about streaming but DAZN have identified a gap in the market and are changing the boxing landscape for the better.

They have already had a MAJOR effect in the sense that everyone seems to be trying to raise their game. I think a few of these promoters/networks have been on easy street for a long time, so a punch on the mouth can be a good thing sometimes as a wake up call and I think that's what DAZN have done

The ppv model is the single biggest factor that pushed boxing into a niche sport. Fair enough at the top end it allowed superstars to make more money but that has been exploited by very few whilst the rest have suffered

DAZN and streaming platforms have got huge challenges ahead of them, but ultimately I think this is the way of the future, whether it's DAZN or someone else. I do think ppv will eventually be 99% snuffed out, but we are talking about a 5-10 year process imo

Getting to see the entire undercard is awesome, too.

i love the DAZN app its smooth. Need better commentators though!

Question, does the search on dazn app work for anyone else? i tried searching and i never get any results back. Say for example in the DAZN app search bar ill type in canelo and nada in return. I tried a few other dazn fighters and it never brings back any results, they need to fix their search results

Showtime has only one fight card for subscribers for the rest of the year.
          DAZN got six. Huge difference.

This thing about Showtime making the holidays an excuse for slowing down during the last quarter of the year is inexcusable.

I do think now that DAZN have a product they will have to partner up with one of the major terrestrial tv networks in the US to promote the service and fight nights to get people over. As well as get themselves on the core built in tv apps with the major suppliers...As I said lots of work to do

I agree that DAZN and ESPN+ are paving the way for a new business model. I am 53 years old and a huge boxing fan. My favorite fighter was Joe Frazier so I do go back aways. I try and attend many live fights. Will be attending the 12/8 and 12/22 shows in NY. Just attended the card in Boston with Andrade. I have always despised pay per view. Most fights are just not worth the money and the the undercards usually stink. I have subscribed to DAZN and ESPN+. the total for twelve months will be less than 200.00. This is a much better value than 70 or 80 bucks for one pay per view. I hope these services suceed.

I don't buy into this logic. TV networks want an appealing service as much as DAZN or Netflix do. Not only that but the opening months of DAZN were supposed to be huge, massive PPV-quality Vegas show etc. and have been nothing like that.

A lot has happened on the business side of the sport in recent months. But if all you care about is the best fighting the best more often, boxing is not undergoing a fundamental change. The most important development in that respect has been the WBSS. It's great DAZN is showing all those fights but they'd be happening either way. Aside from that, Canelo vs a B level fighter, Jarrell Miller vs multiple C level fighters. I'm pretty sure they'll do better in the future but doesn't mean A sides won't cherry pick or that guys will instantly sign to fight each other because both are with DAZN.

DAZN isn't going to monopolize the sport, that just isn't going to happen. Right now more than ever with the current landscape of streaming services, live sports is one of the most effective programming for TV stations. Everyone is competing to get as much live content as possible. This is why FOX and ESPN will be/have invested heavily in boxing. And as DAZN picks up rights to other sports league, they will start spending less on boxing if it isn't worth it to them. Right now they could pay big bucks as the NFL/NBA rights aren't open yet.

But DAZN is going to be good for boxing. I love the quality of their streams and they have the two biggest names in the game. Only way they monopolize boxing in America is if they are ready to pay over $500 million in boxing. If so, they will be damn near treating it like a major sports league. For that to happen, the ratings on those boxing cards would have to be MUCH bigger than what they currently are.
