Comments Thread For: Usyk: Nobody Has Promised Me Joshua - But Fight Will Happen!

OLEKSANDR USYK is not a man of many words but he only needed one to make it clear who he wants to fight next year. The undisputed cruiserweight king takes on Tony Bellew this weekend in Manchester. But he has plans to move up to heavyweight in the next 12 months having already conquered his current division.

He would have don't good in a different era. Today's heavyweight are giants at 6'6, 6'7 and 6'9 he'd be better off staying at cruiserweight

I hope it does. I think Usyk should take one fight against a good HW first and then Joshua, just to get used to fighting a bigger guy.

Usyk is very talented but I feel he’s biting off more than he can chew which I appreciate and respect when it comes to fighting AJ!

I can see him totally dominating Joshua till he gets caught with something big and the fight will be over!

I say 8th round or 9th round stoppage while completely out boxing AJ the entire fight till he gets caught!

Gassiev caught him good one time and he was almost certainly gonna be on ***** Street if there was a follow up punch!

AJ hits 10x as hard and has longer reach!

            very tough fight for Usyk

People like to point to his 5 round UD over Joyce and though he did make Joyce look very basic in that one the thing people don't mention is how Usyks lungs were dropping out of his ass by the 5th round in that one, in a 12 round fight i think joyce actually would have stopped him in 8-9 rounds. It's one thing to look good against these big dudes for a few rounds, quite another to last the 36 minutes and get your hands raised.

Usyk actually said Joyce was one of his hardest opponents and that is what he's referring to, unlike gassiev and bredis etc he had to give everything in every round in that one.

i give him full credit for trying and don't doubt he will have a good go but joshua, fury, wilder are just too big for a guy that doesn't have the physicality to deal with them (like holyfield did)

Usyk is p4p #1 and if Joshua ever fights him, Usyk will put on a boxing clinic and humiliate AJ.

The only real question is, will Joshua agree to a fight he will lose against Usyk, without first cashing in with a fight against Wilder? If AJ loses to Usyk after turning down $50 million for Wilder...

If the GayJ fight doesn't work out for you Olek, you can always pick a fight with Tyson Fury, after Wilder smashes him. Tyson enjoys fights with cruiserweights, especially after considerable hardship and a need to rebuild his career. The timing is perfect.

I assume he's saying this to drum up interest for his upcoming fight this weekend, the way everyone used to call out Mayweather before their fights, but ya gotta give it to him. Usyk has balls.

lol, that is some cherry-picking of information. Yes, Usyk was a lil gassed at the end of the Joyce fight. They were both still technically amateurs, and so Usyk was only used to fighting three three minute rounds.

Of Usyk's last six fights, one went 9 rounds, one 10 rounds, and four have went the full 12. I would imagine Usyk's conditioning is a little better when he is training for 12 rounds and fighting 12 rounds.

Also, the fight with Joyce was for five rounds. Fighters tend to let it all go in the final round. Boxers fight a lot differently in 5 round fights then they do in 12 round fights. Comparing a professional Usyk in 2018, who has had numerous 12 round fights to an amateur Usyk who only fought three rounds is not a fair comparison at all.

AJ and Wilder might wear Usyk out because of there shots doing more damage and just the mental exhaustion they cause. But to base that upon an amateur fight over five years ago doesn't make sense.
