Comments Thread For: Trainer Crossing Fingers That Felix Verdejo Can Rebuild Career

At one point he was being pushed as the next boxing superstar from Puerto Rico, but now Fekix Verdejo is just trying to rebuild his damaged career. Ricky Marquez, the manager and head trainer of Verdejo, is well aware that they have had some very difficult months. But they are also confident that they can reverse the facts, and place themselves in the position they have so longed for: to get on track to a world title.

The protection didn't work, it might have been counter productive. Verdejo struggled and what did they do? Put him in with a softer guy, trying to make him look good. Hair dressers and cab drivers until he dropped to thier level. How do you rebuild something that never was?

I haven't followed Verdejo at all, so someone explain this to me: how can someone whose 23-1 need to rebuild their career? They make it sound like he's one loss from becoming irrelevant

He had been struggling against a caliber of fighters he shouldn't have truly struggled with. That loss was against a fighter he was supposed to beat. So the expectations for him are no longer what they used to be, and obviously Verdejo, his team and his fans would like for him to fulfill the potential most thought he had.

Felix was pampered until he met Torres who had never fought a 12 rounder fight.
