I don't mean to take anything away from Poppachenko, but we are coming off the K2 era. It seems as much a statement by the nation as it does the trainer. Ukraine and Ukrainian boxing is clearly no flash in the pan. The K2 era was no anomaly but a sign of things to come.
To me Lomachenko cemented Ukraine's position as a major boxing nation.
The Ukraine currently owns nine title including ring titles.
For some perspective let's look at Mexico, one of the long time majors in boxing. 9 as well.
How about the UK? Home of the revival has 10 if I'm not mistaken. Close race that.
We call guys like Ali world champions but Ali didn't defend his title against soviets. Today is more global than boxing has ever been and it's super cool that more states, like Ukraine, are finding a place and proving their staying power.
Glad to have y'all around. Glad to have Poppachenko learnin' fools out to hurt other fools, and excited to see what the Ukraine has in it's back pocket next.
