Dana White had a meeting yesterday about Floyd vs Khabib

Floyd Mayweather vs Khabib Nurmagomedov: Dana White reveals stunning talks and explains details

The UFC boss had a meeting with the boxer’s representatives on Wednesday

    By Michael Benson
    1st November 2018, 4:14 pm

Dana White has revealed he held talks with Floyd Mayweather’s team on Wednesday regarding a potential fight with Khabib Nurmagomedov.

The UFC president stated he doesn’t believe the fantasy, crossover bout will come to fruition and is yet to even speak to the organisation’s lightweight champion about it, but conceded he initially also felt the same way about Mayweather v McGregor.

“We went over there, we boxed him and if he wants to do it again then he’s gotta come fight in the UFC,” White told Get Up ESPN, insisting that this fight would have to be an MMA match.

“I don’t think it’s very realistic at all, but I didn’t think the boxing match was either and it happened, so we’ll see.”

When asked directly whether he’d had any conversations with Floyd Mayweather, the 49-year-old replied: “I actually had a meeting yesterday in Los Angeles about this and I don’t wanna make it sound like: ‘Oh wow, this could happen,’ but we had talks yesterday.

“I don’t think it’s gonna happen. I don’t think the fight would happen in the UFC, but they didn’t say no.”

White was then prodded further as to whether he would give any consideration to another boxing match for an MMA star, specifically as Mayweather has publicly declared he would want to box Nurmagomedov, who himself mentioned a two-fight deal.

Initially, the UFC president insisted this wouldn’t happen, however later thawed slightly, and admitted he would discuss it if it was something his man was particularly keen on.

“We wouldn’t. Won’t happen. When all the stuff plays out with the Nevada Commission, Khabib will defend his title in the UFC.

“There’s a reason Floyd Mayweather wants to fight my guys, there’s big money there for him.

I still think an MMA bout with a no-submissions rule could work, but Khabib is way too big for Floyd, any kind of grappling would result in a mauling for Mayweather. I think McGregor vs Mayweather with that same no-submission rule could be competitive....

....not saying Mayweather wouldn't get mauled on the ground anyway though lol

Supposedly the McConor vs Floyd MMA talks were real & they included some hybrid rules that make me think this fight isn't as insane as people might think it is.

I don't recall many specifics, but I believe there was like some sorta 5 second rule or some sh^t like that where a takedown would require a submission in 5 seconds of they'd be stood back up. Khabib isn't even a big submission guy really. He likes punishing people & GnPing them more than subbing them so I'm not sure if they'd still allow GnP or not.

But there does seem to be ways to make this happen in the octagon without it being a legit MMA match is the point & why I think its more plausible then some although I'd still have to say I don't see it happening.

This fool is definitely running out of money. Sell your $35million dollar money pit Jets Floyd. You have 3 of them, that should buy you another 4 years to help sustain your lifestyle... but please don't come back.

This will be a circus. Won't be buying this trash.

If this is some hybrid MMA rules fight as I highly suspect it would be this definitely runs into circus territory.

But lucky for Floyd & Khabib people love a circus.

I think if this actually happens it could compete with Ali vs Inoki as the most freak show fight involving a boxer in a legit sporting event (pro wrestling don't count) ever.

LOL no doubt. Dana gots to say that doe. But yea Khabib would get a career high best payday & I think for Floyd this would be his 3rd or 4th biggest payday probably.

I definitely don't think it'd do Manny or McConor numbers for Floyd. Although I could be underplaying the circus atmosphere for this fight.

                  Basically yea.

Boxing is a part of MMA. Judo, Wrestling, BJJ, Karate, Kickboxing, Muay Thai, Sambo, etc isn't a part of Boxing.

Boxers are at a giant disadvantage vs MMA guys under MMA rules. MMA guys aren't under nearly as much disadvantage vs Boxers under Boxing rules.

Randomly I've always said the best way to fight boxers vs MMA guys would be in the cage, standup only, no kicks (unless agreed to) but with those tiny ass MMA gloves on that provide less defense & I believe create more damage on the competitors.

excuses excuses. run what you brung.

what makes you think mma guys are not at a disadvantage in a boxing ring? remember all the "mma guys dont know how to throw a punch correctly" comments??

just because boxing is part of mma, it doesnt mean it's on the same level as professional boxing. that's like me saying i play some high school ball so i'll prolly be ok in the nba.
