There are two major flaws with BoxRec's ranking algorithm. First, is it doesn't take into account age and how faded someone is. Thus, Horn got 441 points for beating Pac. (And that is why Bummed got so many points for beating a gym teacher.)

The other is, it doesn't take into account how weak or strong any division is. Right now, 140 and 168 are weak divisions, and beating journeymen/gatekeeper type fighters can result in inflated Boxrec rankings.

Other than that though, Boxrec's formula appears to work pretty good.

It does take account the latter because their points should also be lower. For example Joshua has gained significantly more points than others in heavyweight eg wilder; this was partially because he was knocking out early on within 3 rounds constantly. Obviously he then stepped it up.

To be fair there is no algorithm which will be perfect and but it generally is fairly good. As a rule of thumb usually the top ten has 7/8 most would agree with and 16 ish for top20.

The age/inactivity thing does show though at times - Bellew flew up when beating haye for instance ; and fury moved straight back up the rankings despite clearly being no where near the same fighter

Canelo gained 65 points for beating their P4P #3 but Crawford gained almost 300 for beating Horn. Canelo's resume ****s all over Crawfords if we are being honest. Their ratings supposed to be based on resume. Their system is obviously terrible.

All I know is Lomachenko is number 1 and Crawford is number 2. There’s no way in hell if both guys were the same size Crawford would win. Crawford had trouble with a guy with one leg who has movement difficulties due to the bum leg

While I think Lomachenko will beat Mikey, at we can objectively agree that taking spence is just calculated high risk by Garcia. He wants that fight because it doesnt hurt him. If he loses he will definitely say it was size. But imo, that's just an excuse to not fight lomachenko.

In fighting Lomachenko he has no excuses. Losing will hurt him massively.

Fighting spence is nothing more than a safe option for him.
