What determines if DAZN fails or not will have very little to do with boxing. They are just trying to get their name in the hate stateside. No other major sports rights are open so they went after boxing/MMA. Skipper and the rest of the crew know boxing pales in comparison to the NFL or NBA, but what are they supposed to do in the mean time? Can they eventually start to cut down a bit on boxing and/or MMA? Sure, but they just got the biggest name in boxing and know that is one quick way to increase their subscriber base by the hundred of thousands.
John Skipper’s ‘Golden’ moment. How he signed Canelo Alvarez to DAZN

I’m British, but I’d definitely have signed up in the US following the Canelo deal. When Hearn failed in signing any top US fighters I thought DAZN was destined to flop but John Skipper signing Canelo and also making a deal with GPB is huge for DAZN. I expect Canelo could be the first of many former HBO fighters to sign with DAZN, I wouldn’t be surprised to see GGG, Chocolatito etc follow suit.Very true. Thought they were just some random app, didn't think much of them, but I'm sure I wouldn't have signed up if not for this blockbuster deal.
They aren't ***ing around. Message read loud and clear. $365 million dollars. They got my attention, and got my business. Subbed!
It’ll be interesting to see how they cover the financial burden of paying stars like Canelo though as his fights will no longer have PPV buys generating a huge share of the revenue. They must be anticipating a huge increase in subscription numbers.Comment

This article lines up exactly with every comment Golden boy, Oscar and president Eric Gomez has stated about their deal and how it got made. So far Skipper, and golden boy telling you hearn is full of shyt and still you don't want to listen lol
End of discussion
Oscar is making it clear, they get their own deal, different from Eddie. Guys don’t have to sign long term just wants to make the best fights. Also mentions the charlos, unlike other promoters.. pic.twitter.com/5713fkGjNW

You know this is what I was saying & thinking originally myself. But in the last couple days I heard DiBella saying he thinks the NBA & the NFL & maybe some other leagues will be streaming their own sh^t in the future vs signing to a platform. I just heard another similar version of this on a random future-ish podcast I listen to.
I think its possible the major sports will go a streaming route of their own with their already powerful brand potentially cuz the long money is in that being more profitable for them. Smaller sports or sports more spread out or without a centralized power ruling it would make more sense on a streaming platform.
So basically I think there could be the potential that these streaming sports platforms that are already out there now (DAZN & ESPN+) could be investing in boxing like they are now cuz they know boxing might end up being one of the major components of a successful sports streaming platform 10-15+ years from now & it could end up being a primary reason a streaming sports platform could fail.Comment

I can't see that happening with the NFL or NBA just yet. They need a platform plus have the option to stream. Disney does that and others will follow. FOX believes in showing live sporting events on the platform but eventually will need to add more of a streaming element. They already have started with their Fox Sports App.You know this is what I was saying & thinking originally myself. The bidding will be fun in a few years.Comment

Thanks for the share!
I have no idea why people are trying to drive a wedge between DAZN and Hearn. I'm a massive fan of both DAZN and Matchroom promoted events. But I couldn't care less about the relationship between Hearn, Skipper and DLH. Maybe it's just me.Comment
