Comments Thread For: Hearn Agrees With Arum on Showtime Leaving Boxing like HBO

New York - Outside of Canelo Alvarez (50-1-2, 34 KO's), there probably wasn't one other person inside the Hulu Theatre with a bigger smile than promoter Eddie Hearn - ahead of the monumental announcement which brought the Mexican superstar to the DAZN streaming platform for 5 years, as part of a deal worth $365 million dollars for his next 11 fights.

Probably wishful thinking by both Arum and Hearn

PBC/ Showtime/Fox have the deepest stable and have a strong footing in most divisions excluding MW and HW

I’d say it’s a safer bet to say DAZN leaves the North American market before Showtime when it
    Comes To boxing

I agree and I think Bob explained it pretty well in his original comments. Its mainly due to market trends and the nature of Showtime as an entertainment network. 5 years from now I would be very surprised if Showtime is still in boxing. At some point it will no longer be a good investment for them.

Showtime is in boxing until at least 2021 after their extension.

Only way SHO gets out of boxing IMO is if they get huge turnarounds in the next few years and migrate to sister network CBS which is what they're shooting for I bet.

Maybe, but 5 years ago I don't think many thought HBO would have thrown in the towel after their long history of high profile fights.

Even if that happened, wouldn’t bother me, cause they would go to network television Fox, for free, so more exposure for them

But Hearn and bob are hating

Or instead of getting out of Boxing they simply follow the trend and create a new streaming app of there own! With an already stacked roaster they would still be the big dog on the block!

Nah it was clear even 5 years ago HBO was moving away from boxing.

Awesome now boxing is completely off of television ... is that what we really want?

I hope Showtime doesn't leave boxing. They have a lot of good fights. Unfortunately their fighters sit on the shelf to much and stay inactive so we'll see what happens
