If Crawford was "scared" of anyone, he could have just hung out as the undisputed king at 140 and made himself decent coin fighting out of Omaha and the occasional Las Vegas tussle and never challenged himself. Instead, he moved up to 147 to continue to fight the biggest names. I see him all over a Manny fight if it was ever seriously discussed.

I don't think Pac was scared either- just think at this stage of his career Pac can do whatever he wants and his name adds money to any fight. The Crawford fight was not balanced risk/reward enough for his team.
