DAZN is goin to lose boatloads of money on this deal.
Happy for Canelo since apparently his money is guaranteed.
But, what DAZN doesn't realize is their model won't work here.
PPVs are largely dependent on casual fans, folks who are accustomed to buying "big fights".
A few of those folks will actually do the math and figure out paying $120 a year for maybe 3 or 4 PPV worthy fights is a good deal...but the vast majority of them will not.
Most will cancel after that free month then not care enough to pay later for the other "big" fight that comes along.
It also doesn't help that DAZN's biggest stars have their own PPV deals in their home countries that have nothing to do with DAZN- ie, you aren't going to convince the biggest fighters to come over without some kind of PPV "out" like those two have.
The biggest problem is that DAZN is not going to have a big enough stable to sustain itself.
And, sooner or later, the sanctioning bodies are going to order fights and purse bids and there is no way DAZN is going to win all of them.
So DAZN fighters will either fight on ShowTime, ESPN, and Fox...or they will be stripped.Comment

AJ Parker did 350 k with showtimes first replay in the evening doing 430k average with a peak of 483,000
You're talking our of your arse in regards to companies reporting figures and using sky in that sentence because sky never report their PPV salesComment

True that... I just cancelled mine yesterday before the free trial was up. DAZN is pretty bare. Not worth keeping as a on going subscription for me. I would re subscribe for a month if there's a big fight to see but that's it. There hasn't been any exciting fights on DAZN that I couldn't get somewhere else for free.Comment

Canelo may even net more than 1 million subscribers for DAZN. Pretty much every boxing fan in the North America continent with Latino blood in their veins will watch him fight whether it's from their own home, a friends place, or at a sports bar. $9.99 per month is a lot less to pay than $85-$100 per fight if he fights a minimum of twice a year - and barring injuries etc, Canelo will always fight May and September due to the Mexican holidays.Comment

That will never happen in the US. They are set up with their NFL package with Direct TV along with their own NFL app. The only thing DAZN will try to get is the same deal Amazon Prime has and thats to show a few Thursday Night Games. Prime has that deal until 2020 I believe. DAZN Canada has an NFL package but their subscribers say its ****, that its delayed and buffers a lot.Comment

I bet the DAZN bosses and Hearn are gutted they spent hundreds of thousands on market research and financial planning. They could have just created a free account on here and started a thread to get the advice from the real 'experts' on this site that seem to know everything including future subscription figures, amazing.Comment

Hearn does not own or manage DAZN. He is a promoter with a deal with DAZN to provide shows for up to an 8 year period. Golden Boy has a similar deal for 5 years. The two promotions are mutually exclusive. All Hearn has is a heavyweight star on DAZN and a negotiating leg up for the two middleweights he has when it comes to fighting the middleweight star.
