Good for him for getting that money! That said is this good for boxing? Now there's major stake in him winning every fight. If he gets beat on the cards will he take a L? That's a big investment to see your star lose.
Thoughts?
Thats been a situation that was going on with networks in the past. Same deal here.
That said I have zero doubt DAZN could opt out of that contract at any point along the way & if Canelo starts getting his ass beat & KO'd & isn't drawing the same amount of fans I'm sure there is a clause that drops his purse despite this contract being "guaranteed".

nope, he has a contract
if he gets the shlt beaten out of him for his next 11 fights, he will be paid 33mil (minimum) for each of those beatings
DAZN LITERALLY just bet 365mil that it will not happen
It's always been that way with Canelo and now it could get worse. I thought GGG beat him twice but he can't get that win on a golden boy promoted fight in Vegas. With a 10 fight 360 million deal in place nobody is likely to get a win over Canelo if they only beat him by a point or two.
I'm just worried about him facing quality guys ever again. This, "let's invest everything in the biggest stars" route doesn't necessity translate into good boxing. Being that fans will pay for things like the Chavez fight, maybe he'll be just fine. But, I can see this presenting problems, esp if promoters don't want to see DAZN gain steam in boxing. Dealing with an established network is one thing but, in the business world, there tends to be an aggressive attitude against new ventures.
Not to mention, if Hearn just wants AJ on DAZN, that's going to be a very limiting thing a well. They may have just taken these stars, put them on an island, and said, "come here if you want boxing".
I certainly hope that's not the case. We'll see.
not true. Any time a boxer loses the contract can be terminated. Does mean it will though
Have you read the actual contract? There are multiple ways a contact can be drawn up. Everyone seems certain that it's one form or another, but I've not seen anyone quote any facts.
Canelo pulls enough weight that he may just have landed a guaranteed contract, even though I'm personally guessing that there are escape clauses for DAZN. I'd like to see what we're actually dealing with here.

there has to be. Just like when floyd signed his showtime deal. One loss woulda meant showtime could get out

I’ve seen my measly work contracts, and that is for very little money.
My contracts are/read like this.
We guarantee you a five year contract at little money, but you promise to do everything we tell you, and we can fire you at will, with no excuses, with this little severance package, unless we don’t want to pay you.
