I just got to thinking lately. Byrd has been fighting Heavyweights for the longest time now and he's used to the handspeed of heavyweights, which is probably quite a bit slower than cruisers, could that effect him adversly? As in, could he be to used to fighting heavyweights and not be able to roll with the quicker guys?Comment

Originally posted by jwhy would you say that? rjj came up to heavyweight and immediately fought for a title. personally, i do agree with you though and i also think that rjj should've fought a few guys at heavyweight to earn a title shot.
How does this make any sense?
Byrd's coming off a KO loss, Jones was the Lt Heavyweight Champion and Pound for pound #1 in sport.
There IS a case for a champion to move up for an immediate title shot. It's happened MANY times.
There isn't as much a case for a Heavyweight contender coming off a loss dropping to Cruiserweight for a title shot.
Not that there's a problem with Byrd doing it, but your reasoning makes no sense.Comment

bozo, i know it has happened many many times over the years. in my opinion, i just think a fighter should move up through the ranks before getting a title shot at any weight.
this goes for rjj moving up to heavyweight as much as it does for byrd moving down.
i had posted a follow up to the post you quoted, but somehow my net connection failed and i didn't realize that it didn't show up until now.Comment
