Side of the street doesn't matter when you're mandatory and have money backing you.

Jermall Charlo is mandatory, Canelo Alvarez's final voluntary is against Rocky Fielding in December, and Golovkin has already made it clear that he's only looking for a direct third fight.

Saul Alvarez will fight December 15th on the app, Jermall Charlo will likely fight December 22 in primetime on FOX, and then Alvarez will have a decision to make.

Fight Charlo in May (offer up so good a deal that holding out for the bid makes no sense), or give up the WBC belt and take another fight (no different than the last time he did it, Charlo as the interim champion would be elevated to full champion; Charlo would then have to see how everything else falls out).

I don’t think fighting for a 168 title counts as a voluntary as his title isn’t on the line.

Charlo can get all the money to back him he wants but that does nothing because it’s Canelo and he has always done what he wants or what the fans demand, so if Charlo makes enough noise for mexico to care, it’ll get done.

Canelo doesnt even seem like he can be bothered to think of Charlo as he has close to zero fanfare right now. Canelo could use his “voluntary” with a GGG 3 fight in May and vacate if he wants a better fight like Jacobs (if he wins) and not only would people not care he vacated, they’d give him credit for taking a bigger fight.

Charlo is going to *have* to get a hold of one of the real good fighters at 160 and win to make people care enough about it. Assuming Canelo wins that 68 title, he’s going to be able to do canelo weight 2.0 and entice people with being able to pick up a title for the books at 68 (but can defend it at 161 for example.)

Canelo is too big to be bought and similarly to Floyd and even Pac...you just hope your phone rings and its Oscar on the other end. He does what he wants at this point. Only other way is for Mexico and his fans to demand the fight.

Tbf Canelo doesn't have a track record of ducking anybody. He just fought Golovkin twice back to back, he has been fighting at a higher level than Charlo for years

Remember the last time Canelo won the WBC; Sulaiman gave him a voluntary defense before challenging Golovkin as his mandatory. After he won his voluntary against Khan, he invited GGG into the ring and said "We Mexicans don't fuck around" and then he vacated the belt and bailed right back down to 154. It was one of the biggest bitch moves ever

The WBC isn't going to let Alvarez fight a voluntary against Fielding at 168, and then take another voluntary at 160. If that's the plan, he may as well vacate the WBC belt now.

Charlo only really needs his shot at the WBC belt, be it against Alvarez or someone else; no different than with Errol Spence Jr, he and his brother have been built up more than enough to carry Lions Only Promotions events in Houston (to go along with the general Brooklyn, Vegas, Los Angeles trifecta that have basically been built into boxing cities at this point).

He's the mandatory challenger, and the WBC has already made it publicly clear that, after Alvarez fights whomever he wants in December (turns out he picked wba medalist Rocky Fielding), he's next. Be patient, stay on top of the work, fight when you need to fight (Charlo getting the opportunity to launch the new PBC on FOX effort is a good luck), and hold firm to the rulings.

If Canelo wants to give up a belt again (this time with a challenger who hasn't rushed him or impeded a fight), he'll hope to have something to sell to his fans as to why.

We, at WBC Plc, feel that Charlo is not an economically viable commodity in today's marketplace. When our analysts predicted the future and resulting profitablity of Charlo they forecasted a profit of zero. We will, however, keep an eye on him and wish him all success in the future.

Jermall KOed two really weak middleweights to become the mandatory. Hell, one was a cripple.
Jacobs challenged him in the media loud and clear and I think Hearn offered him a fight with Jacobs. Jermall is finally fighting a decent middleweight for the first time in his career. It's the same guy Jacobs beat in his last fight. People should wait to see if he does better than Jacobs did before they declare Jermall the boogie man that GGG and Canelo are so afraid of.
Jermall is getting the Gennady treatment all over again by being declared a MONSTER without ever beating anyone remotely dangerous. Julian William's remains a prospect by the way.
