Arum: Showtime will leave boxing within the next year

Not been in the States for awhile mate so I've no recent experience to draw on.
I thought from what you'd said that there was some kind of licensing restriction stopping a barowner from sticking DAZN on his tv. In the UK for instance bars have to pay a premium to show Sky Sports.
Although a lot of bars only put the very big fights on so given DAZN aren't the likely venue for those PPV nights maybe that's a reason?
IMO this sucks because sometimes I like to leave the house and go to a bar and watch the fights. WIth so many fights on the apps that isn't possible.
I will try to get an answer.Comment

SHO is pretty invested in boxing. They've increased their budget and if they add Canelo and/GGG then they'll be fine (they already have May and Pac now.)Comment

Unfortunately the product showtime is offering simply isnt good enough. Haymon hasnt been able to build one single star since he started pbc.Comment

SHO just signed a three year deal with the PBC. And if they are serious about going after Canelo, which they are, do they look like they are exiting boxing within the year?Comment

Product of SHO has been just fine. The best and most consistent product the last two years. They invested in boxing more than anyone from that stretch and completely overlapped HBO.

I could be wrong but it appears to me that Showtime is fully committed to the sport -- for several years now they've actively tried to build something special at the network when it comes to the sport of boxing, whereas HBO was content to let their power in the sport dwindle and dwindle until they eventually had to pull the plug.
And Showtime also played a monumental role in basically killing off their top competitor -- and now they're going to quit too? I don't see itComment

The writing was on the wall for HBO for years. I'm not sure what wall Bob is looking at to make this prediction. I'm definitely not seeing anything with Showtime that has me believing they are 12 months or less for boxing.
This seems like some wishful thinking more than sh^t talking on Bob's part. It'd make his life just a lil easier if Showtime was gone.Comment
