Obviously it translates to Red Flag in English. But what's the story behind it?

After seeing his brother Jose's thuggish antics I'm wondering if it's a gang affiliation thing. Red rags vs blue rags etc.

I like David Benavidez but that's one of the corniest nicknames in boxing history.

      David "Red Flag" Benavidez.

I've always figured it's gang-related. Reading this story about Jose on ESPN, it's pretty clear that he runs in those circles.

And yet you have an idiot in another thread saying Jose winning would be better for boxing.

Mexicans/Mexican Americans are very tribalistic. They will side with their own against all logic most of the time. In a way that's a good thing(solidarity).

                    Interesting read.

Jose's dad was a gang member, and his grandfather killed a man in a bar.
