What is the governing body regarding drugs in sports? which one is a testing agency and which one sets the rules?
The discrepancy between in and out of competition should be reviewed immediately so as there are no future fallout's regarding drugs and PED's in boxing and sport in general. The legal case that Saunders is about to embark on should help to create some semblance of alignment between the two anti-doping bodies.
If we look deeper into the different anti-doping agencies/regulators, we will find that WADA is "a foundation initiated by the International Olympic Committee based in Canada to promote, coordinate and monitor the fight against drugs in sports" What does this even mean? Are they the regulator of anti-doping and set the rules, or just a foundation with no power?
If we look at VADA we will find that "Vada is a category of savoury fried snacks from India"..... no seriously , "The Voluntary Anti-Doping Association (VADA) is an organization that will offer and promote effective anti-doping practices and programs in boxing and mixed martial arts. Boxing and mixed martial arts are state regulated. Currently, few athletic commissions perform drug testing for performance enhancing substances. When conducted, testing is not comprehensive, rarely unannounced and not a deterrent. Sports regulators do not have the man-power, time and funds to thoroughly carry out the task. VADA will be an opportunity for athletes to demonstrate their commitment to clean sport" again, what does this mean? they are only testing in combat sports and overrule WADA?
So. The BBBoC and MSAC both follow WADA rules (unlike what U.S fans would lead you to believe after the Saunders case). The WORLD governing body for all sports deems this drug to be OK out of competition.... VADA does not.
Who wins this case? Do you believe the rules of WADA should be changed? VADA is not a regulatory body, just a testing agency for combat sports. Should the commissions follow WADA or VADA?
Saunders will win his court appeal IMO as VADA is not a regulatory body and the MSAC do not adhere to their rules. They follow WADA and ruled against their own anti-doping body..... that's not to say I agree with WADA rules, that's just facts.
Discuss. I hope to learn something here as I am astounded at the discrepancy between commissions , WADA and VADA.
