Why didn't he take the rematch with Hopkins?

Why couldn't he accept the 50/50 and just fight him and prove that he's as good as he thinks he is?
I'll just say it like this, why should he give Hopkins a rematch who he basically blew out 9 rounds to 3?

The real question is, why didnt Hopkins take the 60/40 and prove hes as good as he thinks he is.
At this point in his career, Roy was talking about going to HW for bigger money. However, when Hopkins called him out, he said OK, 60/40.
        Why?
Roy was fit at 175 and dropping pounds sucks.
Roy had beaten Bernard Hopkins before.
Did Bernard honestly believe he deserved 50/50 with a three division champ, who was p4p king and who had already beaten him once??
        Come on now.
And if all that is not enough, the 60/40 that Roy offered Hopkins was more money than Bernard Hopkins has ever made in his boxing career.
        More than the Trinidad fight.
Speaking of the Tito fight, Bhop was willing to fight Tito to prove himself and take less cash, why couldnt he do that against Roy?
Becuase he didnt really want to fight him, thats why.

I'll admit, they were both greedy.

However, didn't people agree that Hopkins had gotten better since that match?

I believe many people wanted to see that match and although Hopkins was asking for 50/50 (which should be understandable since the guy never really felt he got the attention or money he deserved from boxing) I think RJJ should have gone ahead with it.

Because as you said, he was eventually going to get more money and he thought he could go through Hopkins, so why not do it?

All he did was make excuse after excuse.

It really made me like him less and it didn't give him any reason to talk all the **** he did and act as if he was someone great.

How can you claim to be such a thing when you duck and whine and make excuses?

Although I don't remember everything about their match right now.

I think I remember some people saying that they thought Hopkins should have won.

So, putting that thought to rest and showing that he really is the better of the two seemed to be right up RJJ's alley as he likes to think that he's better than anyone else.

Thanks Mr. V and Jack for the good karma!

It was competitive, but Roy clearly won.
Fact is, Bhop turned down the biggest payday of his life.

                Well come on.
The man was wanting to finally get the respect and money he felt he deserved.

Also, as I've said before, it wouldn't have been that bad for RJJ.

It would have been a good amount and he was still going to go on to fights with more money.

I don't see why he didn't take it if he felt he really could take Hopkins.

I think he had doubts and didn't want to risk it so he made up excuses as he usually does.

Lets also remember that Roy was the far bigger draw.

                    He simply said.
                    "60/40 ill kick yo ass."

I don't know. I agree that it was foolish of him to do it.

However, I think he was fustrated that RJJ was acting so childish in refusing to take the match because it would be an even split.

Even if he was the bigger draw, why not act like a man and take it and prove that he could take Hopkins?
