  • Comments Thread For: Conte Supports Decision To Deny License To Billy Joe Saunders

    By Steve Kim
Victor Conte is certainly no stranger to PED controversies. The former head of BALCO has now re-invented himself as an anti-drug crusader of sorts in the sport of boxing and in recent years has supervised the strength-and-conditioning of boxers at his SNAC gym in Northern California.

In this case, Victor Conte has a point guys. Billy Joe Saunders knowingly agreed to sign up for the VADA testing program. He had the list of all the substances that were prohibited right in front of him.

In addition, he even admitted to taking the drug Oxilofrine to begin; Therefore his B sample whether it came back negative or positive means absolutely nothing because he already admitted to using the drug.

The Massachusetts State Athletic Commission got it right this time guys because that substance is banned 24/7 and 365 days of years under VADA in the U.S.

You and Conte would have a point .. if oxilofrine was listed as an ingredient of the nasal spray BJS used. Going by the VADA statement, it wasn't listed as an ingredient:

"oxilofrine may have resulted from the administration of ephedrine which was also detected but below the decision limit of 11ug/ml. The estimated concentration of ephedrine is 4.6 ug/ml."

If oxilofrine wasan't listed as an ingredient, then both you and Conte are talking rubbish. BJS is a boxer, not a chemist. How was he supposed to know that taking a legal dose of ephedrine could make someone test positive for oxilofrine?

Trouble is this has probably done him a favour. I thought there was a good chance hed lose this one.Now Warren will find him an easy touch title and ten defences against old Golovkin stoppage victims and another two fights with Eubank Jnr, and Saunders will retire undefeated, boasting all the way. Hes lucky in the way that psychopaths seem to be.

Everything will come out in the appeal process and any future legal battle. Let's just wait until we have all the facts before passing judgement.

                So do I!

He's coming from a position of bias due to him being part of Andrade's team.

VADA said the oxilofrine could have resulted from the presence of a legal dose of ephedrine. How was BJS supposed to know that could happen?

                He's a boxer, not a chemist!

As for this stuff being such a powerful drug for a boxer to use .. wouldn't that depend on how much of it he had in his system?

I'm damned sure there won't be any over the counter nasal decongestants that could have such a powerful effect as that on people who bought them and used them just to get rid of a stuffy nose!

That's what rational, unbiased people do. You won't find many like that at this place.
