Comments Thread For: Artur Beterbiev Continues Legal Battle To Become Free Agent

IBF light heavyweight champion Artur Beterbiev (13-0, 13 KOs) is not throwing in the towel when it comes to his contractual battle with promoter Yvon Michel of GYM. Beterbiev had been inactive for a year, because he attempted to break away from GYM.

      Jesus t^tty f#cking christ 2021.

GYM wasn't even doing nuthing with Beterbiev ffs. Let him free. I'm sure he gots a fair enough value. This promoter sh^t with holding up an athletes already short career stuff has gotta stop.

So many boxers are losing money, potential & hurting their legacy in this game over this silly business sh^t. I mean ffs its not like Beterbiev is on some Mayweather, Canelo, Manny, Joshua type sh^t. He's small potatoes & will probably never be THAT big of a name, draw or money maker. What is all this fighting sh^t about? Put him on the market & sell him off to the highest bidder. If that sh^t don't work out then the new guy can sell him off to the highest bidder.

Whatever is going on the best move for no one is keeping a boxer inactive.

He must be worth something for them not to release him.

I'm not privy to the details of his contract, but a judge did
rule in GYM's favor regarding Beterbiev's contract.
Beterbiev has also caused legal disputes with other's who
have managed his career in the past, such as Anna Riva.
It seems that Beterbiev either does not understand
contracts, or he does not think it's important to honor the
contractual agreements that he signs his name to.
It seems that Beterbiev is his own worst enemy.

I understand this is a complicated legal situation, but clearly these two sides aren't in agreement if they can't even get him in the ring regardless of what a court is saying.

Lets cut the losses on both sides & move ahead on both ends. I'm not saying Beterbiev should be able to leave freely, but why doesn't GYM just sell him off/let someone buy out his contract?

Seems like a win win situation.

GYM keeping Beterbiev til 2021 (believe he'll be 36 & thats game on his career pretty much, ain't a lot of 36 year olds doing big things in boxing) when GYM can't get him in the ring vs quality opponents & Beterbiev has value under other banners is a losing situation for both sides.

Its like your gf saying she don't love you & you guilt tripping her into staying with you. Granted in this analogy the "guilt tripping" is legally backed up, but the bad feelings remains all the same.

Nah. no promoter is gonna ever do any of those things. Why would they? You have a top 5 fighter in one of the most popular divisions in boxing. Theres a lot of money to be made there.

Cuz $1 in your pocket is better than $3 in theory.

I think Beterbiev's potential has already been drastically reduced. And that means the promoters upside has also been drastically reduced. Beterbiev is 34 in 3 months. His best opponent is probably Tavoris Cloud which happened 4 years ago. He's been in limbo within a year after that fight. Dude has fought 5 times in 3.5 years. Seems like just going for the immediate money would be the play here vs hoping this sh^t gets figured out or holding a grudge & keeping him on the sidelines as much as he has been.

It's this sort of thing which makes eddies constant marketing of join DAZN for activity have a lot of credibility. I mean, a deal til 2021 with proposal to fight once a year after less than 20 fights. Wtf?

Hopefully he gets it, no fighter should be help Hostage like that. If they not happy come up with a Settlement to let them out. But I get it, Promoters don't want to invest all this money into a fighter and he leaves afterwards
