A single combination was all it took. Boxing followers can be a cynical lot. There may be some who find reasons to be less than impressed with what Naoya Inoue did on Sunday in Japan. He was supposed to win and did. Sometimes, it's okay to be impressed even by the expected. Juan Carlos Payano is a two-time Olympian and former WBA titlist with wins over Anselmo Moreno and Rau'Shee Warren. He's a proven a solid, capable professional who had never been stopped.

The only afterthought I have is that a fùcking betting site did not let me bet on the very result of this fight for some "technical issues". I had put money on Inoue's 1st round knockout at 15 and could not confirm it.

After getting irate at the above, as an alternative I had all but bet on the Vargas-Dulorme draw, then decided to withdraw my pick!

I thought the WBSS do a count-back of every round until there is a winner? they also have a fourth judge. There can't be a draw in the WBSS for obvious scheduling reasons.

As a former world champ, Payano was not supposed to be sub-par, and neither was McDonnell as a reigning champ (although it was the WBA regular, not super). Regardless of what anyone thinks of those 2, Inouye's next opponent will definitely be an elite fighter. I've seen Rodriguez fight a couple of times and he's extremely slick; not seen Moloney yet, but if he takes the belt of Rodriguez then he's no mug.

Correct, they do a countback to determine who goes forward in the competition, but the official result stays as a D.

The comment still questionable though as a fighter remains undefeated until they get a L. So need replace the words 'undefeated opponent' with 'opponent with a perfect record' for accuracy.

Wasn't aware the result stayed as a draw despite the countback. I suppose the rules for the orgs still count despite the tournament's way of determining a winner.

What if there is 2 champions that fight to a draw? the tournament picks who goes forward but would the winner win the other belt?

Quite possible that in the event of a draw, the one that loses by way of the countback retains their belt (as it remains officially a D) and goes out of the competition along ith their belt.
