This fight is all or nothing for Kovalev. If he loses again, that would be four losses on his record and at that point, he will then become gate keeping status.

I really hope Foldalev gets beaten badly and retires for good. He is an arrogant piece of sh@t and deserves to get knocked out AGAIN from Alvarez in rematch. LOSER!!!Comment

Unfortunately, that wasn't a lucky punch, but the natural consequence of a condition that Kovalev has started to be in, since Chilemba fight: After 5 rounds he starts tiring, keeping his guard low, exposing himself to danger. It happened with Chilemba, Ward (more notably in rematch), it happened even with that nobody Mikhalkin, even though Kovalev was good enough to score a TKO in rd7. Alvarez fight was just the 'natural' conclusion of this process: He was good enough to resist to Kovalev's early rounds best shots and the end came as consequence: From rd 6 on Kovalev started slowing down, constantly keeping the guard low. He looked tired, with no fuel left in the tank. His end was just a matter of time. Respect to Alvarez, who, despite not being a big puncher, took advantage of the situation and landed a good right hand flush. Sad but true, because I am a big fan of him but the reality is that 'The Krusher', as we used to know him, is probably gone forever. Reasons? Maybe bad training habits (someone reported him drinking during camps), maybe a premature aging, maybe a lack of motivation, maybe a mix of all this, who knows. I was sad the night he lost to Alvarez, but reviewing his last 5-6 fights, everything seemed to make sense to me: He just can't keep the pace of the best at 175 anymore. Yes, I think he'll be soundly beaten by Alvarez in February, and probably call it a day, but it would be the same (or even worse) against the likes of Bivol, Beterbiev, probably Gvozdyk.
