Does it make sense for Canelo to make a non-PPV platform deal?

The more I've been thinking about Canelo's newly found free agency the more I think its only down to ESPN & Showtime/Fox who've stated they are willing to f#ck with PPV's moving forward.

Is there any reason that doing business with DAZN would make more sense for Canelo, that would also make sense for DAZN, or any other non-PPV entity who could make an offer to Canelo?

I actually think ESPN will win he race so long as they have a similar offer as Showtime. ESPN is very big in Mexico a la ESPN Deportes.

Canelo will have a large platform on ESPN to win SMW title and then return to MW in May for PPV. That's what I expect to happen - so long as ESPN offers $$ the way Showtime will

No it doesn't make sense. But I don't think his December fight is a PPV. If Hearn wants to pay him an arm and a leg for a one off fight why not do it?

And there is no way in hell Oscar is dealing with Haymon.

Yea I suspect GBP's current ESPN deal make them the favorite.

Yea I'm talking about his next long term deal. And hell I think this Fielding fight could even land on HBO still.

If Canelo goes to Showtime Oscar would be dealing with Espinoza not Haymon. Just like if he goes to/stays at ESPN he's not gonna be dealing with Arum.

Only way Canelo goes to FOX is if he joins PBC. Fox has an exclusive deal with PBC for 4 years. Their schedule is already set. 10 shows on FOX and 12 om FS1 per year.

He can go to SHO, SHO is not exclusive to PBC.

ESPN has an exclusive deal with Top Rank for 7 years. If GB goes to ESPN they have to go under Arum, if I'm correct?
Warren made a deal with ESPN yet the headlines say Top Rank and Queensbury Promotions.

Oscar wants to stand on his own.

Also, like it or not, ESPN remains the #1 sports network.

Canelo on ESPN is good for boxing

I thought Top Rank was the exclusive promoter to ESPN. They're involved in the Frank Warren cards on ESPN plus and the Kovalev-Alvarez fight.

I'm not sure that they could switch him over to advertiser revenue (network TV) that quickly. Someone's got to sell him to the advertisers, and it's got to be in an amount equivalent to the major PPV buys he's doing. The UFC still puts it's major stars on PPV because they can't get that kind of $$ on their network shows so I'm doubting Canelo can pull that off being that boxing is still meh on TV.

As far as DAZN goes, that would be a dicey move for both Canelo and DAZN. Not only would it be expensive for DAZN, but if they fail to draw numbers for Canelo, it could ruin his brand, costing him a lot in sponsor revenue.

I think ESPN is the likely front runner long term. The fight with Fielding probably ends up on HBO as you said.
