You don't think GGG could have done this at any time? Nobody in this forum even knows who Rocky Fielding is. I'm sure there was another scrub with a strap floating around 168 during GGG's time.

I like to look a bit deeper than what's on paper in relation to Boxing. I mean, that's why we're all here right? With that said, this fight is meaningless because Canelo will never be a real champ at 168.

The why didn’t GGG do it? Instead he stayed at 160 and fought 10 Rocky Fieldings there it much worse than Rocky Fielding really.

I’ll tell you why GGG didn’t do it, if he showed he could have gone to 168, someone there would have called his bluff at that weight.

I too was caught off guard and dumbfounded by the announcement.... here’s my take though. 1- Canelo looking for a soft touch after the GgG fight, 2- ddnt want to go through another grueling camp to get back down to 160 after having just fought anticipate he’ll weigh in around 166 or so 3- they don’t look at Lemieux as a soft touch especially after having a tough close fight with GGG expect Lemieux in May.. or maybe just maybe a possible catch weight fight with Zurdo.. anyway these are just my first opinions on the announcement I may be wrong as ****. Also I don’t like the idea of such a quick turnaround fight for Canrlo. It’s thise dark horse fighters that worry me. Hope Canelo doesn’t regret the decision. With that said canelo by KO

Im not a lilg nutthugger. but just being consistent. when Golovkin was regular the full champ who was I think Sturm wanted no parts of him. I'm not gonna fault Golovkin for being ducked. in this scenario Canelo is moving up and facing a low tier 168lber for a meaningless belt when he could've just faced Smith and made a bigger statement.

my issue is the posters saying "Canelo doing what GGG never did" as if Golovkin would get ANY credit for fighting Fielding? he wouldn't.

but its a voluntary aka cherry pick so i dont care. I actually made a thread a while back asking why is Golovkin title defences so high when he was just regular champ.
