That Cotto v Martinez fight was the most pathetic thing I'd seen at the time. Martinez walking out with XXXL trouser-trunks to hide his knee braces and losing his footing just from the centrifugal force of his own missed jabs. He could literally barely walk & was reportedly hiding from the athletic commission before the fight.

It was only surpassed by the Kovalev v Ward "knockout" ie ref appearing on top of you as you hunch over from being punched bullseye in the testicles then waving the fight off.

I wonder what the future brings.

Sergio is one of my favorite fighters. But I hope he doesn't come back, his legacy will be tarnished!

He is going to mess up his legacy. New question is Sergio a Future HOF?

Sergio's whole style was based on mobility. Without knees, he's a sitting duck. That fight with Cotto was a travesty. I'm glad I didn't pay for it. Wasn't that a PPV? I was disappointed...and I was a Martinez fan lol. Please, stay retired.

I like Martinez, and he beat some good names. No great names, though. I thought he won that first Williams fight.
Pavlik was a good win. Chavez? In retrospect, Jr is a huge underachiever. I hope Martinez gets in to the HOF, but he's borderline.

a completely pointless rematch since he beat Chavez easily the first time.
The only fight that would still make a little bit of sense would be against Cotto.

I would say so. He was the cream of the crop for a few years there and only lost when he blew his knees out

Just looking at the photos of that fight hurts my knees.

Dont they have to do some kind of prefight physical?

I dont get how he could pass, how the commission didnt realize his knees were shot to ****. He shouldnt have been allowed to fight. Its clear he knew that but if he didnt fight he didnt get paid and he took the L for the cash.
