Is there an actual belt, or any other type of physical accolade for being "lineal" champ? I've always considered it as nothing more than a bragging rights thing.
Yes nobody beat Fury for him to lose his titles but the same can be said of Lewis who retired as "lineal" Champ, does that not mean the "lineal" title was retired with him? As impressively as Fury nullified Klitschko, and as amazing a career as Klitschko had, neither could truly be called the "lineal" Champ.
I'm sure the line must have been broken a couple of times before Lewis was considered "lineal" champ as well. Is the title really worth anything as it is now literally impossible to be the man who beat the man, who beat the man, etc all the way back to the original "lineal" champ.

Yea.. but it doesn't work that way. The lineal champion can only lose his title in the ring.

Universally recognised #1 vs #2 establishes a new lineal. But Wlad's lineal status is questionable which in turn made Fury's. Wlad never beat #2, his brother was #2. Being banned for 2 years for steroids makes anyone claiming Fury is still lineal a ****ing idiot.

If that's the case Lennox Lewis is still lineal.

Fury lost the lineal because he retired (his words) if that didn't strip him , then Lennox who retired as well is still lineal.

Fury is not the lineal Champion. He used to be 2016. Before we knew he used steroids in the lead up to the wlad fight. Even his win over wlad is in question. He is lucky they didnt change it to a NC.

I'll take that reasoning, so the winner of this fight can only be considered the lineal champ if they also beat Joshua as well (and I'd make AJ the favourite against either at the moment) - unless someone else beats him 1st which I think is doubtful with the current crop of contenders, but you can never be sure at HW.
Lets hope Joshua can lure the winner to Wembley in April, however Wilder at least will have a rematch clause in case of losing. I can't give any credibility to the rumours that Wilder-Fury is a 2 fight deal regardless of the result in December; surely no champ would ever agree to that for a simple defence against a non-belt holder - regardless of who the challenger might be.

Problem is - the opinions of people on boxing forums or “popular ranking sites” are merely opinions and don’t count for anything.

Well that's all lineal is an opinion, there's no official title.
