I've watched that fight at least 3 times and can hardly remember anything from it bro. one of Floyds least remarkable fights, and where he only got the rep as a "boring" fighter, although he is far from that for the most part.Comment

Mayweather has to be in position for it to work, when he is leaning forward over his front knee to bait them for the pull counter. They should be aware of that and use more feints when he is in that position and know that they will need to be closer than it looks like to actually land since he can lean back.
Any fighter who tries to box mayweather on the outside is going to be really susceptible to the pull counter, especially since mayweather has a long reach for a welterweight and had the reach advantage in almost every single fight. Guerrero, Canelo and Marquez were getting killed with the pull counter all night since they wanted to fight on the outside and marquez especially since Mayweather's reach advantage was so big.
I think Mayweather would lose to Hearns, someone with his reach, height and speed would give him problems even without his power. Throw his power into the mix and Mayweather will have to be extra cautious and that would lower his output even more. It was really awkward for mayweather vs mcgreggor who was taller with a longer reach and mcgreggor wasnt even a real boxer but Mayweather was just not used to having to work to get within reach.
Fighters like Maidana and Hatton, they like to close the distance and fight inside and make Mayweather work. Hatton got caught with the pull counter while coming inside. He would move in a straight direct line with no head movement. Maidana is very tricky, he throws from odd angles and changes levels a lot. His style is a lot less susceptible to the pull counter.Last edited by elfag; 10-02-2018, 04:42 AM.Comment

McGregor countered it completely in round 1.The famous move he is known for. He leans forward and finches back and counters you with the straight right hand.
Honestly, one of my favorite signature moves from Floyd Mayweather, consider him being a defensive technician.
I know in the Mayweather-Maidana II fight, Maidana exposed a little on how to counter it by faking a jab then overcome with an overhand right that gave Mayweather a little buckle. Though, that only worked once considering Mayweather is very versatile and a smart fighter - he won't fall for the same trick twice.
Back in his prime he did it with ease.
What other way do you think would be able to counter it?
