RIP HBO Boxing, although they did leave the door open for a big fight here & there.

Been saying this was gonna happen for a long time (budget has been shrinking for 20 f#cking years & still shrinking lately as more money was coming in the sport), but its still sorta crazy to hear it as news.

Max seems to have been the only guy who's seen the writing on the wall & gots other gigs already outside of boxing. Maybe he won't even f#ck with boxing again or PBC, DAZN, Showtime or ESPN is gonna have a bidding war for his services. Since he's already down with ESPN I suppose he might land there.

RJJ & Jim will surely land somewhere else if they wish to. Or at least they should. I hope HBO isn't gonna keep them out a year or w/e with a non-compete or to keep them locked in if they do show Canelo vs GGG III in 2019 or something like that

And I'd assume this means Jim's show is off the air to, but did they say anything about that?

Very sad news, a lot of younger fans here and people who only started watching boxing recently, but this is a sad day for fans who watched HBO boxing in the 80s-90s-mid 00s.

I don't see what's to celebrate, HBO was once the pinnacle of boxing. Their production was top notch, not just the live events but the documentaries, 24/7 specials, etc.

HBO has produced some of the best boxing moments in history, but started going downhill in the last decade. In the end, HBO did it to themselves.

Will always remember the beginning of BAD with Barrera-McKinney , the Gatti fights, being excited for months about Mayweather-Manfready and the heavyweight slugfest between Ibaebuchi and Tua and so much more.


I choose to remember that HBO, and they were gone for a long time so it was painful to me to see them where they were. So part of me is glad but still very sad to see them go they truly did build stars one round at a time.

This is a win-win for the sport. We don't have to deal with network roadblocks between HBO and Showtime anymore.

The 90's HBO Boxing was nuts for me. All you really needed back then was HBO cuz virtually all the fights that mattered in the world seemed to happen there. And it was casual boxing fan heaven cuz if they didn't show it there it probably wasn't THAT important of a fight.

And yea this is nothing to celebrate unless you are some f#ckhead fanboy. I think the current caliber of boxing HBO has shown was about HBO giving HBO Boxing less & less of a budget year in & year out for 20 damn years more than HBO Boxing "gave up" on boxing or just started to show less meaningful fights then they did in their prime for no reason.

Lot of kids and man children in this forum bro. They're always arguing over ratings and promoters. Any true boxing fan knows HBO has been pivotal in keeping boxing alive here in the states. So many legendary fights and fighters. I hate to see boxing leave any network

I hate to see them shut it down but it had become apparent that it was coming for some time now. I personally only subscribe to HBO and Showtime because of the boxing so my Uverse bill will be going down just a bit. I bet Eddie Hearn will try to take credit for this. SMH.

You don't think there is isn't just gonna be a DAZN vs ESPN vs Showtime/FOX thing going on now?

It'd be cool if you were right, but idk that Spence will be on DAZN or ESPN anytime soon or Bud or Loma will be on Showtime/FOX or DAZN anytime soon or Joshua will be on Showtime/FOX or ESPN anytime soon. Everyone is still gonna guard their best fighters being on other platforms I tend to believe.
