The Canelo Alvarez-Gennady Golovkin rematch was a better fight than their first meeting. That thoroughly entertaining encounter did not, however, produce more revenue from tickets sales than their first fight. The Nevada State Athletic Commission has reported that the Alvarez-Golovkin rematch generated more than $23 million in ticket revenue. That makes it the fourth greatest-grossing fight in terms of gate receipts in Nevada boxing history.

I just read on bad left hook that even though they sold less tickets the rematch as whole generated more money than the 1st due to them hiking up the ppv price this time around.

if theres a 3rd fight it does less in ppv and attendance unless they bring the prices back down to the 1st fight.

I'm guess this is where G got his almost 50-50 from Oscars cheap ass raising the ppv price last minute.

You could tell it had a bit less interest by the secondary market ticket sales. Of course they were expensive but a little less crazy than the first fight.

A third fight would be interesting from a revenue standpoint. I wonder if this fight will do more or less than the first. Price went up so that hurt but I think some people were turned off by the first decision. Do more people tune in because it was a great fight, are more people turned off because they are sick and tired of seeing what they determine bad decisions. We will see.

I think the market is tapped now. Who ever is interested is interested in this fight and who ever isn't isn't. Even as good a fight as this one was it moved the needle less IMO than the first fight with the general public (at least in the US, and I'm not sure even in Mexico their was more interest).

If I'm GBP and Golovkin I'm selling the fight for the exact same price. The ones who want to see it are going to pay for it. You can try and market it more but not sure it matters. I don't think someone is going to say you know I missed the two first fights but now I'm interested.
