I think people are focusing on the word "broke" too much. Canelo took the fight to him and Golovkin couldn't knock him out like he said he would. For 6 rounds Canelo was breaking Golovkin down. He was able to fight back in the second half of the fight but he couldn't deter Canelo. Even when he had Canelo hurt he was still moving backwards. Canelo dominated the fight because he was able to do to Golovkin what no one thought he would do. It's the same way Ward beat Kovalev TWICE. He was to able wear him down and eventually stopped him. Everyone, included Kovalev thought he would steamroll Ward and it didn't happen. You have to give the smaller man the nod when they take the fight to the bigger "bully" and do better than hold their own.
