That is not the way I understand pfp ratings. I think it is supposed to be based on how good YOU THINK a boxer is for his weight class right now, today. It should be what you think of the boxer's fighting ability not official verdicts which can be horrible and wrong as hell.It shouldn't be based on how others scored a fight either but how you scored the fight. If you don't do things that way it really isn't your pfp list but somebody else's. Like you I thought GGG won both fights. To me the only score card that matters is mine when I make my pound for pound top 10 best list. I don't give a damn about the official verdict or how other people scored the fight. GGG and Canelo are evenly matched and Canelo gets better every fight while GGG stays excellent but gets older. GGG may never beat Canelo in Vegas. That doesn't matter to me. I thought GGG won two close fights so I rank him 2nd pound for pound behind Loma and Canelo 3rd pound for pound. Others may not like this but it's my list not theirs.

Your understanding is incorrect imo. You can't just dismiss what fighters have done in a historical sense, that has to be factored in. If a guy cleans out a division, or beats the best guy there and then moves up, he doesn't get a reset. You have to factor in what he has accomplished in those lower weight divisions.

That is the whole reason p4p was introduced in the first place, SRR was too good of a WW so he had to move up to middleweight and so on, this has been the case with other great fighters as well, including Floyd and Manny. Everyone knew SRR was th3 best fighter on the planet, so they derived the term pound for pound, his loss to Lamotta didn't change that perspective, as he was naturally bigger.

Only exceptional fighters, extremely versatile fighters can climb through weight divisions and still beat the best, and although there is a lot to be said of a fighter who can be dominant in one weight division, the truly great fighters in a p4p sense have been able to dominate in multiple divisions. The only exception to this rule are the heavyweights, and a couple of exceptions, including Hagler. And in those cases, their competition and/or longevity was so exceptional that they couldnt be ignored.

It is a very subjective topic, and there are several variables when considering the choices.
