Comments Thread For: Hopkins: Canelo's Speed & Chin Were Key, Golovkin Got Tired

Bernard Hopkins was all smiles after Saul Canelo' Alvarez captured the WBA, WBC and IBO middleweight titles after a majority decision against Gennady Golovkin. The fight at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas came nearly a year to the day since a split-decision draw left the Kazakh boxer stunned.

What’s not being mentioned is Canelos vicious body punches. It had ggg huffing and puffing by round 3. That was the difference maker.

What a great card this was, every fight entertained. The wait til the main event took forever but the fight was worth the wait.

So if Canelo can out box GGG do think Mayweather would have boxed GGG ears off when they said they would fight Mayweather at 155 ?

You dumbasses need to stop giving the credit for waiting until a fighter gets old to a few body punches. GGG has been declining for years and he was huffing and puffing badly by the 5th round against Willie Monroe Jr too, where you could see he was already declining. That's part of GGG "letting" Monroe hit him was that he was tired enough where he decided letting Monroe unload a few punches on his face was worth taking a little breather. You guys keep wanting to overhype fighters you like by giving them all this credit for a few punches they landed within a fight most people did not even think they won. You did the same thing with Kovalev-Ward before your opinion got completely exposed when it came out that Kovalev had been partying and drinking for awhile and his stamina was complete ****. The same exact thing happened to him vs Mikhalkin and Alvarez even after he fought Ward, and to a large extent vs Chilemba before he fought Ward as well.

All these guys are doing are waiting until a fighter gets old and his stamina goes in the toilet, then claiming their body punches are what tired him out when really, GGG has so much muscle around his midsection, he can take a great body shot. That wasn't the issue. The issue was at his age, he gasses out quickly.

When did Canelo outbox GGG? They fought 24 rounds, the judges gave Canelo 13, GGG 11, and that's in Vegas which means we all know GGG really won 16 of them if even the Vegas judges gave him 11.

As for Floyd, supposedly he's not as big as Canelo, can't punch as hard as Canelo to keep GGG off or take GGG's power as well as Canelo, but then again, they said the same about Canelo when he was at 154, and look at him now. With a little growth hormone and some other undetectable PEDs, I think Mayweather could have beaten GGG for sure.

There was one round where I felt Golovkin was hurt to the body to the extent Canelo could capitalise on it, and it gave Canelo one of the his clear rounds (might have been around 6 or 7, can't remember).

As for tiredness - they were both exhausted in there. Canelo was knackered in rounds 9/10/11 which is what allowed Golovkin to take those rounds. They both emptied their tanks in round 12, but neither 'out-tired' the other.

Ok, GGG was tired. Canelo was even more so in the second half.

No. GGG is too big and just way too good to have that kind of size advantage. The reason it worked for Canelo is because he can actually back GGG up. Canelo has the perfect style AND physical attributes to fight GGG.

Floyd may be a genius but it’d be like watching sadam ali vs munguia. Ggg would hurt Floyd.

P4p is another story but in real life weight classes exist for a reason.
