After the tournament Hopkins felt he deserved 50/50 and don't be foolish enough to compare Roy Jones Jr's value to Oscar De La Hoya.

I agree while Roy was a big draw DLH just tapped into so many markets that he is perhaps the biggest non-heavyweight draw in the last 25 years.

I am curious though. Do you think RJJ offer of 60/40 as fair?

I think he should've made it 55/45, because he did beat Bernard Hopkins before and if Bernard Hopkins was so confident he'd beat him this time, he should've taken it and act like an ******* to Roy for their third fight (had Hopkins won the second). But I think 60/40 was too much.

I'm not saying RJ & DLH are eaual in drawing poer so don't get ahead of youself. I meant it's like that because Jones at that time was a huge draw compared to Hopkins & a PPV fighter whereas Hopkins just started to be recognized by the mainstream as a good fighter.

60/40 was more than fair for Hopkins at the time. If he thought he could have won, he would have taken it. Beating Roy Jones at that point would have been an earthshaking accomplishment and would have given Hopkins an instant legacy, PPV status, and then there would have undoubtedly been a rubber match if Hopkins had won, and this time Hopkins would have called the shots on a mega-PPV third match and demanded the larger cut.

Hopkins didn't think he could win. So he chose not to fight. The end.

Roy jones gave him the offer for 60/40. Hopkins didn't want to accept. So how was roy ducking him?

I think Jones would of beat Hopkins in a rematch but I think he also did everything possible to not face Hopkins again.

He always said Hopkins was one of his toughest fights and even acknowledge that he improved from when they first met. Plus on top of that Roy Jones told Don King that if King wanted a Tito/Jones fight that he should keep Tito away from Hopkins. Jones didn't really have any interest in fighting Hopkins again.

hopkins is given too much credit for beating blown up welterweight de la hoya and junior middleweight trinidad...the best and only victory of his career was antonio tarver

Obviously, Roy was interested in fighting Hops if he offered a perfectly fair 60-40 split.
