Comments Thread For: Canelo to Explore Options Once HBO Deal Expires After Saturday

LAS VEGAS Win, lose or draw, Canelo's Alvarez's rematch with Gennady Golovkin could be the Mexican superstar's last fight with HBO. The Los Angeles Times reported Wednesday that Alvarez's exclusive contract with HBO expires after his pay-per-view main event versus Golovkin on Saturday night at T-Mobile Arena. Oscar De La Hoya, whose company promotes Alvarez, told the newspaper that he'll consider a new television or streaming partner for Alvarez because he's not certain about HBO's long-term commitment to boxing.

Isn’t it GGG’s last fight with HBO as well? I think if both GGG & Canelo leave HBO than it’s probably time to pack it in. Kovalev is also done with HBO it seems like & Ward is retired. And isn’t Jacobs also done with HBO? Who do they even have left at this point?

In this case, canelo is the only worldwide fighter aside from pacquiao who doesn't need Al haymon, pbc or showtime..he represents so much money that anything he does even on his own will generate business.

Golden boy is signing a deal with ESPN mark my words. They already work together on a smaller scale and there's no room on showtime.

GGG is jumping ship too this is the last fight on his contract. He either retires or goes to ESPN willing to bet anyone who thinks otherwise

Nobody. Hbo doesn't wanna do boxing anymore.

I believe so. Unless they want a 3rd fight but tbh I think HBO is ready to cut boxing completely. They're turning down fights, cutting budgets and cards, writings been on the wall.

                  WTF is HBO Doing?

Losing HBO I don't think is good for Boxing to be honest. HBO has a lot of Subscribers and just a long history of showing boxing

It’s a shame that it’s come to this though. I guess HBO doesn’t really need Boxing though due to all the other content they have on there. It’s probably not a loss at all for them outside of the ones that mainly keep HBO only for Boxing.
