Canelo is the one who reached out to Khan and he was ducking a GGG fight at the time. He asked the wbc for a tune up even though prior to fighting Cotto he lied to them and said he would fight GGG immediately after Cotto.

His actions warrented criticism.

GGG was criticised because of his hypocrisy.

He heavily criticised Canelo for fighting a welterweight and then turned around and fought a welterweight himself. He criticised others for being businessmen and turned into businessman himself.

Spence's situation is uniquely different.

Unlike Canelo, he didn't reach out to the guy in a lower weight class, the guy in the lower weight class is the one that has been name dropping him all this time and then recently has directly called him out. Unlike GGG he isn't being a hypocrite and he hasn't tried to fool the fans into thinking this will be a fair match-up.

He is calling it a mismatch himself and being honest about it. However he clearly prefers Porter because he said that that is the fight he wants next, but is keeping his options open because unlike Porter Garcia is dead set on fighting him whereas Porter sounds like he will be looking for a way out already making excuses in the post match press conference.

I'll mention Ugas all day if they're still bringing up Mikey. He's better than Ocampo, too.

Yea. He is better than Ocampo, trust me. I was at the fight when he got knocked out in the first round.

Having said that I would have rather it been Mikey in there instead of Ocampo. I think Mikey is the most interesting willing and available opponent for Spence outside of Porter. Hopefully Porter happens but if not I’m not mad at the Mikey fight. Someone w as much pedigree and recent success as Mikey def has a chance. This isn’t inactive Rigo vs Loma.

But put yourself in Spence's shoes. You know there is a good chance Porter will pull out of the fight. So say he burns the Mikey Garcia bridge and then Porter pulls out. What does that leave Spence with?

He gonna be sitting on his ass with no opponent whatsoever willing to face him.

That's what he is afraid of I'm sure based on his behaviour.

The way I see it, based on his words and actions (confronting porter in the ring), he wants to make the Porter fight asap, but if Porter pulls out then he needs Mikey Garcia as back-up otherwise he'll be sitting on his ass again and watching other people fight.

There is another scenario too.

Imagine he burns the Garcia bridge and Thurman comes back from injury and fights Garcia, Porter ducks him and fights a Khan or someone, and Spence does what...sits there with egg on his face?

There are so many variable to consider if you're Spence.

However, he has made his intentions clear, his first choice is to fight Porter next and than Thurman if he comes back to boxing.

Isn't that enough?

Losing to Loma is a loss to a better fighter on an equal playing field. Losing to Spence is losing to a much larger fighter on a unequal playing field and excusable .

Yeah the Golovkin haters are as expected silent after criticizing G for fighting Booke who was much closer in size to Golovkin. In both cases the smaller guy wanted the fight. I think Mikey is foolish to take this fight but smaller guys have been moving up forever.
