Just my opinion.
Actually... Your on to something. Apparently he was down to 240 and went home and gained that extra weight and never wanted to take it off.

It boggles my mind. I can't imagine a fighter who is getting ready to make a run saying that he does not mind the extra weight..and martin was getting into that fight in the later rounds. Definitely a weakness.

What does this kid's trainer tell him?

It's the same case with his best friend Big Baby Miller, they don't like athlete diet and pick trainer who will enable them eating trash food. Very unprofessional of both guys and not a way to become champion. How many fat champions in boxing do you recommend from the top of your head? Discipline and clean life goes with champion.

You never know. If he can get into a fringe position, if AJ and Wilder unify then there's a very good chance that at least one belt will be vacated at some point.

Especially with how the rankings work (???) he may just be in a position to fight for a vacant belt against another fringe contender.

If Charles Martin can win a belt then there's hope for anyone.

Being physically at your best was something that was the bare minimum during most boxing epoches. If one cannot discipline the self casually, what happens when one is tested, exhausted, feeling like they cannot go on? For many of the great ones this was where the fight started... la Motta against Robinson, Gatti against Ward, etc etc.

Its just a shame that these guys cannot dedicate themselves.
