Because a cherry pensioner picking bum slayer and an obese, inactive undercard fighting cokehead should not be able to command that sort of money. It makes a mockery of the sport and hard working, risk taking fighters who fight top contenders regularly.
It's not going to happen anyway.Comment

Exactly, Abracada, exactly...
I don't know what part of this some folks aren't getting.
The article mentions a casino- the MGM Grand- by name as coming up with a site fee.
Well, if rumors had a $40 million dollar site fee being bandied about for AJ vs Wilder, what do you think this fight will command?
At least half as much? The same?
Whatever it is, it aint peanuts and pretty much guarantees both men good paydays, especially when you add a Vegas gate.
You might be talking about a pot of anywhere from a $20 million to 40 million before one PPV is sold.
This absolutely changes things...Comment

Reports are that Vegas has come thru with a site fee to host the fight and that both men are guaranteed 20 million.
If this is true, I don't think anyone can doubt that both men were right to fight each other instead of accepting a lowball offer to fight someone else.
Rumors are that Vegas was willing to shell out 40 million for AJ vs Wilder, so it wouldn't shock me if the site fee for this one was at least half of that if not more.
No matter what happens, this changes the bargaining position of both men when it comes to a potential showdown with Joshua.
Both men could wind up with more money from this fight than Joshua has ever made in any one fight- no more talk about whether Wilder or Fury should accept whatever Matchroom offers because it would be "their highest payday".
This is a game changer...

I don't see that happening...I think wilder genuinely wants to be the undisputed champion and believes he can be. When the fight reaches a point where it's worth enough money, both sides will be looking to cash in and no longer really be concerned if their guy wins or loses. Most big fights follow the same pattern, they just gotta make sure neither guy loses in between.Comment
