Lucas Browne retired him in late 2013 by KO, in the fight Towers was trying to outbox on the backfoot but couldn't keep him away with his jab, crazy watching at 6'8" him not plant his feet and use his power in that fight. It seemed like he was scared from previous sparring to me(commentator mentioned they sparred previously).

During 2010 - 2014 he travelled and shared many camps (David Haye, Klitsckho etc

Browne KO'd him and he realised he wasn't world class and just didn't make a comeback.

He's like 39 now and is a boxing coach so probably no comeback (actually had a 6 rounder then retired) which is a shame I felt he could of been a contender but he must of knew from sparring in top HW camps that he wasn't an elite boxer. Seems to be doing good work as a coach nowadays so good luck to him but I trust his opinion with regards to Wilder's power.

you can't fight anybody that continues to duck you dumbass.

Wilder has either fought or called out all heavyweights. Every last one of them wants to fight him except for Joshua. Whose the coward ?

Weirdly I think the lack of technique helps his power. He has those big long levers and just really commits to whatever he throws. Steps back and throws with full force, forgets about his stance, guard etc. If he misses it looks wild, but if he connects it’s lights out. He then has enough athleticism to get away with this without gassing.

Can imagine AJ could generate huge power with wild swings too, but would be knackered within a round.

A.J. does not display 1 punch concussive power like Klitschko does. Dont judge based on the amount of kos/stoppages.

Got to agree and if it has anything to do with Hearns boozed up old man (which I think it does!) then they won't fight for another two years.......ultimately it's Joshua's call and for me he should be fighting Wilder next!....Two fights guaranteed $80m minimum and he say's NO!!!

Whoever said aj doesnt have a one punch concussive power seems to forget the uppercut he retired klitchko with...and the fact wilder was a sparring partner to klitchko for years and never fought him like aj did

That's all the proof needed. That uppercut should have knocked out an inactive 42 year old man, but it didn't.

Not sure why anyone would be surprised by this assessment. Towers rankings align pretty accurately with what my eyes tell me. Vitali could crack, his brother could as well and was more fluid than Vitali. Wilder's power seems freakish to me. AJ pounded on Takam until the ref stopped it. Meanwhile, Del Boy damn near decapitated Takam with one shot.

Tower's is talking about power only, no reason for people to be offended; power is only one part of the equation (just ask either Willie Pep or Ernie Shavers). AJ is a very good boxer and athlete. To get off the canvas against Klitschko shows an incredible amount of heart and cardio endurance. AJ can crack too, just not as hard as Wilder IMO. He uses other aspects of his game, in conjunction with his power, to get his opponent out of there.

Wilder has power but isn't the best boxer. He has been outboxed at times by Gerald Washington, Ortiz and even Spilzka had moments. The difference is that he has the big eraser with his one punch kayo power.

That's what makes all of these matchups so damn compelling. Who will use their skills and toolbox to defeat the other. Fury may not crack hard but the man is a handful for any HW provided he's on his game and fitness.

Can't wait for these fights to happen.
